Edmond Rousse
Aimé Joseph Edmond Rousse (18 March 1817 – 1 August 1906) was a French lawyer, and member of the Académie française from 1880 until his death. He was born and died in Paris. Biography He was called to the Barreau de Paris (Paris bar association), before becoming secretary to the Conférence des avocats, then member of the conseil de l'Ordre des avocats (1862) puis and finally bâtonnier to the barreau de Paris (1870). He was secretary of Chaix-d'Est-Ange, of which he published the pleas, president, in 1870, of the Paris bar, he published his ''Pleas and Speeches'' in two volumes. Elected to the Academy on May 13, 1880 to replace Jules Favre, and received by the Duc d'Aumale on April 7, 1881. He received the Vicomte de Vogüé. An academy (Attic Greek: Ἀκαδήμεια; Koine Greek Ἀκαδημία) is an institution of secondary education, secondary or tertiary education, tertiary higher education, higher learning (and generally also research or honorary membership). Bar Association
A bar association is a professional association of lawyers as generally organized in countries following the Anglo-American types of jurisprudence. The word bar is derived from the old English/European custom of using a physical railing to separate the area in which court business is done from the viewing area for the general public. In some legal systems, the bâtonnier is the head of the legal profession (the bar). Jersey In Jersey, the Bâtonnier is head of the profession of advocate. The role includes administering the legal aid system for the island (the day-to-day administration is carried out by an Acting Bâtonnier, while the Bâtonnier decides appeals against the decision of the Acting Bâtonnier). The Bâtonnier formerly had a role in dealing with disciplinary matters involving advocates, but that role was removed in 2005.
