Edgeville was a former company town and railway stop located southeast of Myakka City, Florida, Myakka City in Manatee County, Florida, Manatee County, Florida, United States. History Edgeville was established in 1915 as a turpentine company town by the Edge-Howard Company on the East and West Coast Railway. The town was located about halfway between Myakka City, Florida, Myakka City and Pine Level, DeSoto County, Florida, Pine Level. In August 1917, the Edgeville post office was established, but closed only a year later. Mail for the community was rerouted back through the Myakka City post office. In 1919, a public school for African-American children was opened at Edgeville. The white children of Edgeville attended school in Myakka City. East And West Coast Railway
The East and West Coast Railway was a railroad line running from Bradenton on the west coast of Florida southeast to Arcadia in the Peace River valley. Despite its name, the line never went all the way to the east coast of Florida. The line was often used to transport mail, lumber, grain and other commodities. Opened on May 3, 1915, the nearly fifty mile line began at the Seaboard Air Line Railroad's line through Bradenton just south of the Manatee River, and ran southeast closely following the current route of State Road 70 via Myakka City to Arcadia. In Arcadia, the line crossed the Charlotte Harbor and Northern Railway and the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad's Lakeland–Fort Myers Line before terminating in the southeast portion of Arcadia. Pine Level is a ghost town in DeSoto County, Florida, United States. Pine Level was founded in the 1850s and had bars, saloons, courthouse, jail, stores, churches and homes. Gunfights were considered a common sight on the streets. In 1866, the site of what became Pine Level was chosen as the new county seat of Manatee County to replace the Manatee River village of Manatee (now the eastern section of Bradenton).
