Edgar Çani
Edgar Junior Çani (born 22 July 1989) is an Albanian professional footballer who plays as a striker for Italian Serie D club Crema. Club career Early career Çani was born in Tirana, Albania but grew up in Città della Pieve in the Perugia central Italy, after his family emigrated to Italy in the famous exodus of the Vlora ship on 8 August 1991. He was first spotted by a Pescara scout in 2004 and started his youth career at the time. He signed his first professional contract with the ''biancazzurri'' in 2007. Luca Di Matteo (born 25 February 1988) is an Italian footballer who plays as a left back. Career Di Matteo started his career with Pescara, establishing himself as a player with good potential despite his young age. On January 31, 2008 Palermo signed Di Matteo from then Serie C1 club Pescara, together with teammate Edgar Çani in co-ownership deal for €500,000 and €600,000 respectively. Serie C1 was the third highest football league in Italy. It consisted of 36 teams, divided geographically into two divisions. History Before the 1978–79 season, there were only three professional football leagues in Italy, the third being Serie C. The league menaging the C was also organizing the semi-professional Serie D. The ''Vlora'' was a cargo ship built in 1960 in Ancona (Italy) that sailed under the Albanian flag until 1996. It is most famous for carrying tens of thousands of Albanian refugees to the Italian port of Bari on 8 August 1991, an unprecedented mass arrival that caught Italian authorities unaware.
