Demetrio Eduardo "Eddy" Sánchez Iglesias (born 1973) is a Spanish politician and economist. Background Sánchez was born on 1 September 1973 in Maracay (Venezuela), to a Cuban father and a Spanish mother. Sánchez moved to Spain when he was 14 years old. There he joined Comisiones Obreras (CC.OO.). He studied law at the University of Salamanca (USAL) and graduated in Political Science and Sociology at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM). The president of the Community of Madrid is the highest-ranking officer of the Autonomous Community of Madrid and the head of the executive branch. The office is currently held by Isabel Díaz Ayuso of the People's Party. Origins and election In the process of the democracy restoration in Spain between 1975–1978, the nationalist and regionalist parties pressed to grant home rule to parts of Spain. Finally, the Constitution stated that any province or group of provinces could form an autonomous community and thus be granted partial home rule. The Autonomous Community of Madrid (Spanish ''Comunidad Autónoma de Madrid'') was created in 1982, and since then regional elections are held every 4 years. Tania Sánchez Melero (born 29 April 1979) is a Spanish politician. She was United Left deputy in the Assembly of Madrid until she left that party on 4 February 2015. Biography Tania Sánchez was born in Madrid in 1979. She has a three years degree in Social Education. When a teenager she participated in several organizations related to the Punk subculture and against the bullfights. She started her political life in the municipality of Rivas Vaciamadrid, where her family is strongly linked to the ruling United Left. In 2007 she was elected to the city council where she was the Deputy Spokesperson of the United Left municipal group, and designated to the Executive Board as has been Councillor-head of the Departments of Culture, Festivals and Cooperation for Development. The Assembly of Madrid or Madrid Assembly ( es, Asamblea de Madrid) is the unicameral autonomous legislature of the Autonomous Community of Madrid since the approval of the Madrid Charter of Autonomy in 1983. It is elected every four years during the Spanish Regional and Municipal elections, as the Community of Madrid Charter of Autonomy does not recognise the right to call early elections (as in the Basque Country, Catalonia, Galicia and Andalusia), save for exceptional situations like the scandal that deadlocked the May 2003 Assembly and forced fresh elections in October 2003. 2011 Madrilenian Regional Election
The 2011 Madrilenian regional election was held on Sunday, 22 May 2011, to elect the 9th Assembly of the Community of Madrid. All 129 seats in the Assembly were up for election. The election was held simultaneously with regional elections in twelve other autonomous communities and local elections all throughout Spain. The election was won by the People's Party (PP), which had formed the regional government since the 1995 election. Overall, the PP under incumbent President Esperanza Aguirre won 72 seats, although the party's overall vote share decreased. In contrast, the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) under former Mayor of Parla Tomás Gómez had their worst result in terms of votes and seats up until that date. The third largest party, United Left (IU), polled their highest share of the vote since 1995, whereas Union, Progress and Democracy (UPyD), a party formed after the 2007 election, surpassed the 5% threshold and entered the Assembly for the first time.
