Eddy Fox
Edward Albert Fox (1864–1945) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Melbourne Football Club and Hotham Football Club in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) during the late 19th century. Fox grew up in North Melbourne and was recruited to local VFA club Hotham for the 1886 season. He spent one season with Hotham, playing on the wing, before leaving to join fellow VFA club Melbourne for the 1887 season. Fox became a regular in the Melbourne side playing at half-back; he did not miss a match for Melbourne from 1887 until an injury in 1893. Known for his physical strength—due to the large muscles he developed as an ironworker—and attack on the ball, Fox was selected to represent Victoria in three games over 1890 and 1891. In 1889 Fox became captain of Melbourne, a position that he retained for the majority of the next seven seasons. Ballarat ( ) is a city in the Central Highlands (Victoria), Central Highlands of Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia. Joe Wilson (Australian Footballer)
Joseph Francis Wilson (27 September 1870 – 7 December 1912) was an Australian sportsman who was prominent during the late 19th century. Originally from Launceston, Tasmania, he was educated at Launceston Grammar School and played Australian rules football and cricket for the school's firsts aged only 15. In addition to his school sports, Wilson played football for the Launceston Football Club in the Northern Tasmanian Football Association (1886–1986), Northern Tasmanian Football Association (NTFA) and cricket for several senior Launceston clubs. He established himself as one of Launceston's best all-round sportsmen by the time he completed high school; he was a prominent member of Launceston Football Club's consecutive NTFA premiership teams of 1888 and 1889, and he regularly represented Northern Tasmania in cricket and football. South Australian State Football Team
The South Australia state football team is the representative side of South Australia in the sport of Australian rules football. South Australia has a proud history in interstate football, having a successful historical record. South Australia won the second National Football Carnival in 1911 and won two out of the four Interstate Carnivals in the State of Origin era, including the last two. Western Bulldogs
The Western Bulldogs are a professional Australian rules football team that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), the sport's premier competition. Founded in 1877 as the Footscray Football Club, and based in West Footscray in the old City of Footscray west of Melbourne, the club won nine premierships in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) before gaining admission to the Victorian Football League (which became the AFL in 1990) in 1925. A mark in Australian rules football is the catch of a kicked ball which earns the catching player a free kick. The catch must be cleanly taken, or deemed by the umpire to have involved control of the ball for sufficient time. A tipped ball, or one that has touched the ground cannot be marked. Since 2002, in most Australian competitions, the minimum distance for a mark is 15 metres (16 yards or 49 feet). Marking is one of the most important skills in Australian football. Aiming for a teammate who can mark their kick is the primary focus of any kicking player not kicking for goal. ''The Sportsman'' (1881–1904?) was a weekly newspaper published in Melbourne, Australia, devoted to sporting news, predominantly racing, with football or cricket second, with columns on handball, shooting, boxing, cycling, wrestling, swimming, yachting and other masculine sports. The paper was founded by S. V. Winter, founder of the ''Herald and Weekly Times'', and sold off in 1893. The Williamstown Football Club, nicknamed The Seagulls, is an Australian rules football club based in Melbourne. The club currently competes in the men's and women's Victorian Football League and VFLW competitions. Fitzroy Football Club
The Fitzroy Football Club is an Australian rules football club currently competing in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA). Formed in 1883 to represent the inner-Melbourne municipality of Fitzroy, the club was a member of the Victorian Football Association (VFA), before becoming a foundation member of the breakaway Victorian Football League (VFL/AFL) in 1897. Fitzroy won a total of eight VFL premierships, of which seven (1898, 1899, 1904, 1905, 1913, 1916 and 1922) were won whilst they were nicknamed the Maroons and one (1944) as the Gorillas.
