Eddie Woolbright
Edgar Ray Woolbright (18 March 1920 - 6 August 1996) was an American entrepreneur who planned and developed the Beverly Hills subdivision of Lahug, Cebu City in the Philippines. Early years (1920–1941) Edgar Ray Woolbright was born in Boswell, Oklahoma on 18 March 1920, son of Ray Wiilbright and Nell Sanders of Oklahoma, United States. His father was a blacksmith. During the Great Depression he worked as a soda jerk, then in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He joined the United States Merchant Marine, and was in Caracas, Venezuela at the time of the December 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. World War II (1941–1945) During World War II (1939–1945) Woolbright continued in the Merchant Marine as a second mate. He sailed in a convoy to Russia in 1942 during the Battle of the Atlantic, in which many of the ships were sunk by German aircraft. Marcelo "Celing" Briones Fernan (October 24, 1927 – July 11, 1999) was a Filipino lawyer and political figure. He is the only Filipino to have served as both Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and as Senate President. The Manila Jai Alai Building was a building designed by American architects Welton Becket and Walter Wurdeman that functioned as a building for which jai alai games were held. It was built in the Streamline Moderne style in 1940 and survived the Battle of Manila. It was considered as the finest Art Deco building in Asia, until its demolition. It was demolished in 2000 upon the orders of the Mayor of Manila Lito Atienza amidst protests, to make way for the Manila Hall of Justice, which was never built.
