Eddie Leishman
Edwin William Leishman (December 20, 1910 — December 28, 1972) was an American professional baseball player, manager and executive. He was the first general manager of the San Diego Padres when they joined Major League Baseball, serving from late 1968 until 1972. Immediately before, Leishman had been the GM of the Triple-A, Pacific Coast League edition of the Padres from 1960 to 1968. Early life On December 20, 1910, Leishman was born in Oakland, California. Career Leishman began his professional baseball career for the Hollywood Stars in 1930. Throughout the 1930s, he was a shortstop and second baseman for various minor league baseball teams, including the Newark Bears and the Binghamton Triplets. When a pitched ball in 1935 fractured his skull, Leishman ended his playing career due to his injury. In 1939, he became the manager of the Twin Falls Cowboys. Shortstop
Shortstop, abbreviated SS, is the baseball or softball fielding position between second and third base, which is considered to be among the most demanding defensive positions. Historically the position was assigned to defensive specialists who were typically poor at batting and were often placed at the bottom of the batting order. Today, shortstops are often able to hit well and many are placed at the top of the lineup. In the numbering system used by scorers to record defensive plays, the shortstop is assigned the number 6. King Of Baseball
King of Baseball was a ceremonial title awarded annually from 1951 to 2019 by Minor League Baseball to recognize an individual for their longtime dedication and service to professional baseball. It was awarded during baseball's Winter Meetings and usually presented along with a crown and robe. The title originated in a beauty pageant held in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Minor League Baseball in 1951. The first king was selected to accompany the winner, "Miss Golden Anniversary". The pageant was discarded after 1954, but crowning a king continued. The title was not issued in 2020 after the cancellation of the minor league season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Buzzie Bavasi
Emil Joseph "Buzzie" Bavasi (; December 12, 1914 – May 1, 2008) was an American executive in Major League Baseball who played a major role in the operation of three franchises from the late 1940s through the mid-1980s. He was best known as the general manager of the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers from 1951 to 1968, during which time the team captured eight National League pennants and its first four World Series titles. He was previously a key figure in the integration of minor league baseball in the late 1940s while working for the Dodgers organization. He went on to become the first president of the San Diego Padres (1968–77); then, between 1977 and 1984, as general manager, he assembled the California Angels teams that made the franchise's first two postseason appearances.
