Eddie Burke
Edmund Cornelius George Burke (June 2, 1905 – October 7, 1993) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who played 106 games in the National Hockey League. He was born in Toronto, Ontario and played for the Boston Bruins and New York Americans. Eddie Burke (baseball)
Edward D. Burke (October 6, 1866 – November 26, 1907) was a Major League Baseball outfielder. He played all or part of eight seasons, from until . During that time, he played for five teams: the Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Alleghenys, Milwaukee Brewers, Cincinnati Reds, and New York Giants. In 1890, Burke was traded in midseason along with pitcher Bill Day for Billy Sunday. This is the only recorded time the famed evangelist was traded during his baseball career. In 855 games over eight seasons, Burke posted a .280 batting average (983-for-3516) with 747 runs, 30 home runs, 413 RBIs, 293 stolen bases and 319 bases on balls. The Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) is the governing body for the majority of junior and senior level ice hockey teams in the Province of Ontario. The OHA is sanctioned by the Ontario Hockey Federation along with the Northern Ontario Hockey Association. The Philadelphia Arrows were a professional ice hockey team that played in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1927, the club was Philadelphia's first professional hockey team and played in the Canadian-American Hockey League. The team changed its name to the Philadelphia Ramblers beginning with the 1935–36 season when it became affiliated with the National Hockey League's New York Rangers. The following season the Ramblers and the C-AHL began playing an interlocking schedule with the International Hockey League for two seasons before the two circuits formally merged to form a new International American Hockey League (renamed the American Hockey League in 1940) in June 1938. 1932–33 NHL Season
The 1932–33 NHL season was the 16th season of the National Hockey League (NHL). Nine teams each played 48 games. The New York Rangers beat the Toronto Maple Leafs three games to one for the Stanley Cup. League business After sitting out for a season due to financial difficulties, the Ottawa Senators rejoined the NHL. The Philadelphia Quakers never rejoined the NHL after sitting out the 1931–32 season. Detroit Falcons were renamed as the Detroit Red Wings. Although the Montreal Maroons had Flat Walsh, Dave Kerr and Normie Smith for goal, they were interested in acquiring Chuck Gardiner of Chicago. The 1931–32 NHL season was the 15th season of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Ottawa Senators and Philadelphia Quakers suspended operations, leaving eight teams to play 48 games each. In the Stanley Cup Finals, the Toronto Maple Leafs swept the New York Rangers in three games to win the franchise's third Stanley Cup championship. Canadian–American Hockey League
The Canadian–American Hockey League, popularly known as the Can-Am League, was a professional ice hockey league that operated from 1926 to 1936. It was a direct predecessor of the American Hockey League. For its first ten years the Can-Am's membership varied between five and six teams. However, when the Boston Bruin Cubs dropped out after the 1935–36 season, the league was reduced to just four active teams (Philadelphia, Providence, Springfield, and New Haven). At the same time, the Rust Belt-based International Hockey League had also been cut down to just four teams; Syracuse, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, and Cleveland. With both leagues at the bare minimum number of teams to be viable, they decided to form a temporary "circuit of mutual convenience" known as the International-American Hockey League.
