Edda Award for Best Television Personality (Icelandic: ''Sjónvarpsmaður ársins'') is an award at the Icelandic Film and Television Awards (Edda Awards The Edda Award is an accolade bestowed annually by the Icelandic Film and Television Academy, and is the most prominent film and television award in Iceland, awarded annually in February. The ''Edda'' has awarded for outstanding work in various ca ...). The award was first presented at the 2nd Edda Awards in 2000 and has been a part of the awards every year since. The result is decided by the Icelandic public, which is able to vote for their favorite person on television online in a small time period up to the awards. In recent years the award has become highly sought after by the television nominees and they can be quite competitive towards one another up to the award ceremony. 2nd Edda Awards
The 2nd Edda Awards were held on 19 November 2000 at the National Theatre of Iceland. The awards were hosted by actress Steinunn Ólína Þorsteinsdóttir and TV presenter Jón Ársæll Þórðarson. The awards were broadcast live on RÚV. The public could cast their vote online on the Icelandic news website ''Morgunblaðið''. Public votes had 30% say in the results, and the academy the other 70%. The public was also able to vote for " Best Television Personality" and their vote had 100% say in the result. The film ''Angels of the Universe'' (''Englar alheimsins''), based on the novel by Einar Már Guðmundsson, received most nominations. It received eight nominations and won seven awards. The 1st Edda Awards ceremony was held on 15. November 1999 by the Icelandic Film and Television Academy (ÍKSA). The awards were held at the Reykjavík City Theatre in Reykjavík, and were hosted by Þorfinnur Ómarsson, director of the Icelandic Film Fund. Awards were given in eight categories, plus one Honorary Award given for special contribution to the Icelandic film industry. ''Ungfrúin góða og húsið'' (''The Honour of the House''), based on the novel by Halldór Laxness, received five nominations, The film ended up winning two awards, for Best Film and Best Director. Logi Bergmann Eiðsson
Logi Bergmann Eiðsson (born 2 December 1966) is an Icelandic television host, news anchor and reporter. He worked for the public broadcaster Sjónvarpið before his move to private channel Stöð 2 in 2005. He later started work at Sjónvarp Símans in 2017. Eiðsson started his career in media as a reporter for the newspaper ''Þjóðviljinn'', and later for ''Morgunblaðið''. Eiðsson was a sports correspondent, and later news reporter, anchor, producer and deputy head of news for Sjónvarpið, in addition to hosting the quiz show ''Gettu betur'' for six years. Sverrir Þór Sverrisson (born 5 August 1977), known under his stage name Sveppi, is an Icelandic comedian, actor and writer. He started his career in the TV show ''70 mínútur'' on Popp TV in 2001. The 4th Edda Awards were held on 10 November 2002 in the National Theater of Iceland in Reykjavik. The awards were hosted by TV presenters Valgerður Matthíasdóttir and the previous year's Best Television Personality Logi Bergmann Eiðsson. Gísli Marteinn Baldursson (born 26 February 1972) is an Icelandic television host and a former politician. Ómar Ragnarsson
Ómar Þorfinnur Ragnarsson (born 16 September 1940) is an Icelandic environment activist and former entertainer, news reporter and rally driver. Born in Reykjavík, Ómar began acting on stage at the age of 12 and started his career as a stand-up comedian when he was 18. He has written a considerable number of songs and lyrics, performed by him or other Icelandic pop artists. Ómar studied law and has been a professional aviator and pilot since 1967. He worked as a TV reporter for RUV Channel 1 from 1969–1988, for TV Channel 2 from 1988–1995, and again for RUV from 1995. Later he started his own film production, mainly on nature and environmental issues in Iceland, Norway and the USA. He has also written 10 books in Iceland. Silvía Night
Silvía Night ( is, Silvía Nótt) is a fictional, satirical character on (''The Silvia Night Show''), an Icelandic comedy show of the television channel Skjár einn. The character was invented by Gaukur Úlfarsson and Ágústa Eva Erlendsdóttir; the latter plays Silvía Night. Silvía Night interviews people in real-life situations. Before the show made its début on TV, and when Silvía was still unknown, she used to upset the people she interviewed dramatically with her outrageous behaviour. Silvía Night was Iceland's participant in the Eurovision Song Contest 2006. Her antics, both onstage and offstage, created controversy and garnered international media attention. Her album '' Goldmine'' was released in April. It topped the Official Icelandic Albums chart on 23 April 2007.
