Edakkad Assembly Constituency
Edakkad State assembly constituency was one of the 140 state legislative assembly constituencies in Kerala state in southern India, before the 2008 delimitation of constituencies. It was one of the 7 state legislative assembly constituencies included in the Kannur Lok Sabha constituency until the 2008 delimitation. The last election to the constituency was conducted in 2006, and the MLA was Kadannappalli Ramachandran of Congress (Secular). After the delimitation in 2008, Chelora, Edakkad, and Munderi Gram Panchayats became a part of the Kannur (State Assembly constituency), whereas Anjarakkandy, Chembilode, Kadambur, Muzhappilangad, and Peralasseri were added to the newly formed Dharmadam (State Assembly constituency). Edakkad Assembly constituency came into existence in 1965. It was created by replacing the Cannanore-II Assembly Constituency which had existed from 1957 to 1965. The Kerala Legislative Assembly, popularly known as the Kerala Niyamasabha, is the State Assembly of Kerala, one of the 28 states in India. The Assembly is formed by 140 elected representatives. 1996 Kerala Legislative Assembly Election
The 1996 Kerala Legislative Assembly election was held in May 1996 to elect members to the Kerala State Assembly. 2001 Kerala Legislative Assembly Election
The 2001 Kerala Legislative Assembly election was held on 10 May 2001 to elect members to the Kerala State Assembly. Polls were held simultaneously in all 140 seats and resulted in a voter turnout of 72.47%. The election saw a change of guard in the state with the United Democratic Front winning 99 seats as opposed to the 40 won by the Left Democratic Front. The remaining seat was won by a UDF rebel candidate. Democratic Indira Congress (Karunakaran) (DIC(K)) was a political party in Kerala, India. DIC(K) was founded at a meeting in Thrissur by the K. Karunakuran faction of the Indian National Congress on 1 May 2005. Initially it was called National Congress ( Indira), but the name was changed DIC(K) for registration purposes in August of the same year. Karunakuran's son K. Muraleedharan was the party president.
