Ed Sullivan (unionist)
Edward C. Sullivan is a former American labor union leader. Born in Boston, Sullivan became an assistant elevator mechanic in 1964, and joined the International Union of Elevator Constructors. 17 years later, he was elected as business manager of his union local. In the post, he campaigned for democratic reforms in the international union. This was successful, and in 1996, he was appointed as assistant to the union's president, and then in 1998 he won election as president of the union. In 2000, Sullivan was elected president of the Building and Construction Trades Department, AFL-CIO. In the post, he created the Helmets to Hardhats to encourage military veterans to work in the industry, and he formed the Construction Users Roundtable to work with employers. On election, he faced opposition from some affiliates, which culminated in the resignation of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. International Union Of Elevator Constructors
The International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC) is a trade union in the United States and Canada that represents members who construct, modernize, repair, and service elevators, escalators, moving walkways, and other conveyances. The IUEC claims a membership of over 25,000. The IUEC is a bargaining unit for its members who in turn pay quarterly dues to compensate for the representation. There are various locals throughout the United States and Canada made up of members from the same geographic areas. Robert Georgine
Robert Georgine (July 18, 1932 - March 29, 2011) was a labor union activist and leader in the United States, and served for a number of years as president, chairman and chief executive officer of the Union Labor Life Insurance Company. Georgine was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1932 to Silvio and Rose (Hogue) Georgine. He married the former Mary Greener, and they had four children. With only had a high school diploma and some college education (he never graduated), Georgine became a woodworker operating lathes and other wood working machinery. He joined the International Union of Wood, Wire and Metal Lathers (now part of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America). Mark Ayers
Mark H. Ayers (January 22, 1949 – April 8, 2012) was an American labor leader who was president of the AFL-CIO Building and Construction Trades Department from 2007 until his death in 2012. He was described as "the second most powerful man in the labor movement" in this period. Biography Mark Ayers was born in Canton, Illinois, in 1949. His father was a coal miner. Ayers served as a U.S. Navy aviator for four years, including in the Vietnam War. Having settled in Peoria, Illinois, in 1973 he started his career an apprentice with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 34, working his way up to become business manager of the local.
