Ed Mayne
Eddie Paul Mayne (September 16, 1945 – November 25, 2007) was an American politician from Utah. A Democrat, he was a member of the Utah State Senate, representing the state's 5th senate district in West Valley City. Early life and education Mayne studied at Snow College and the University of Utah. He worked for Kennecott Utah Copper in the Bingham Canyon Mine after his first year in college. Karen Mayne
Karen Mayne is an American politician serving as a member of the Utah Senate from the 5th District. She assumed office on January 2, 2008, succeeding her husband, Ed Mayne. Early life and education Mayne was born in Salt Lake City. She is a graduate of Chamber West Leadership Center and attended Henagers Business College. Career Mayne worked as a para-educator for 20 years in the Granite School District. Throughout her career in education, she won the Para-educator of the Year, the American Federation of Teachers, the Lucy Beth Rampton Award for Community Service, and the Service to Community Award. Before her position as senator, Mayne was active in her local PTA, baseball and football organizations, and numerous political and community activities. Hunter High School
Hunter High School is a public high school located at 4200 South 5600 West, West Valley City, Utah, United States. It was opened in 1990 with its first graduating class graduating in 1991. During the first school year (1990–1991), the enrollment was below capacity, largely because seniors and juniors (classes of '91 and '92, respectively) were allowed to choose whether to come to Hunter or complete their high school education at their current schools. The school celebrated its 25th anniversary at the end of the 2014–2015 school year. The school was heavily featured in the TV movie '' Wish Upon A Star'', starring Katherine Heigl and Danielle Harris. The main gym was also used for the filming of an LA Gear shoe commercial featuring Utah Jazz player Karl Malone. Bingham Canyon Mine
The Bingham Canyon Mine, more commonly known as Kennecott Copper Mine among locals, is an open-pit mining operation extracting a large porphyry copper deposit southwest of Salt Lake City, Utah, in the Oquirrh Mountains. The mine is the largest man-made excavation, and deepest open-pit mine in the world, which is considered to have produced more copper than any other mine in history – more than . The mine is owned by Rio Tinto Group, a British-Australian multinational corporation. The copper operations at Bingham Canyon Mine are managed through Kennecott Utah Copper Corporation which operates the mine, a concentrator plant, a smelter, and a refinery. The mine has been in production since 1906, and has resulted in the creation of a pit over deep, wide, and covering . It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966 under the name Bingham Canyon Open Pit Copper Mine.
