Edward Lewis (Devizes MP)
Edward Lewis (30 July 1650 – July 1674) was an English landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1669 to 1674. Lewis was the son of William Lewis of The Van Glamorgan, also an MP for Devizes. He succeeded to the estates of his father in 1661 and travelled abroad from 1663 to 1666. In 1669 he was elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Devizes. He became a freeman of Devizes in 1670 and was Deputy Lieutenant for Glamorgan from 1670 until his death. He was J.P. for Monmouthshire, Glamorgan and Breconshire from 1672 and commissioner for assessment for Monmouthshire and Glamorgan from 1673. Lewis died in London before 23 July 1674, when his will was proved by his brother-in-law William Jephson, who inherited Boarstall, his Buckinghamshire estate. Sir Edward Roberts Lewis (19 April 1900 – 29 January 1980) was an English businessman, best known for leading the Decca recording and technology group for five decades from 1929. He built the company up from nothing to one of the major record labels of the world. A financier by profession, Lewis was professionally engaged by the fledgling Decca company. Having failed to persuade its directors to diversify from making record-players to making records, he raised the capital to take the company over, and ran it until his death. Among the ground-breaking achievements of Decca under Lewis were the "Decca Navigation System" (the leading maritime and aviation navigation system prior to GPS), the Decca "ffrr" recording technology, and the first release on record of Wagner's '' ''Ring'' cycle. Edward Lincoln Lewis was the Archdeacon of St Davids from 1929 until 1936. Lewis was born in 1865 and educated at the St David's College, Lampeter. He was ordained deacon in 1891, and priest in 1892. Edward Mann Lewis
Major General Edward Mann Lewis, KCMG, (December 10, 1863 – July 27, 1949) was a highly decorated United States Army officer who served his nation for 46 years. During the First World War, he led the 30th Infantry Division when they broke the Hindenburg Line. Upon arrival in France in 1917, he was placed in command of all U.S. forces in Paris. In 1918 he led the 3rd Brigade of the 2nd Infantry Division at Château-Thierry where he was responsible for planning and leading the attack on the strategic town of Vaux. General John J. Pershing then promoted him and placed him in command of the 30th Infantry Division in July 1918. Assigned to the Fourth British Army, the 30th Division (Old Hickory) broke the Hindenburg Line on September 29, hastening the end of the Great War. Bim And Bam
Bim and Bam was the stage name of the Jamaican comedy double-act Ed Lewis (1914–1976) and Aston Wynter (1913–1978). They made a name for themselves in Jamaica in the 1930s performing at hotels and clubs, initially adopting the blackface Minstrel show format of the era. Edward Lewis (December 16, 1919 – July 27, 2019) was an American film producer and writer. As producer, he worked on nine films in partnership with actor Kirk Douglas; from 1958 to 1966, Lewis was Vice-President of Kirk Douglas film production company, Bryna Productions, as well as its subsidiaries, Brynaprod, Joel Productions and Douglas and Lewis Productions. He also produced nine films directed by John Frankenheimer. Lewis also wrote several books. Biography Lewis was born in Camden, New Jersey to Max Klein and Florence (Klein) Lewis. Million Dollar Productions was a movie studio in the United States active from 1937 until 1940. It was established to produce films with African American casts. It was a partnership between Harry M. Popkin, Leo C. Popkin and Ralph Cooper. History Ralph Cooper was an experienced black actor nicknamed "Dark Gable" who was also a singer, dancer, comedian and emcee at the Apollo Theatre Amateur Night in Harlem. While contracted to 20th Century Fox, Cooper learned film making skills. Together with George Randol, he formed Cooper-Randol Productions to produce ''Dark Manhattan'' (1937). The Committee of 100 was a British anti-war group. It was set up in 1960 with a hundred public signatories by Bertrand Russell, Ralph Schoenman, Michael Scott, and others. Its supporters used mass nonviolent resistance and civil disobedience to achieve their aims. History The idea of a mass civil disobedience campaign against nuclear weapons emerged early in 1960 in discussions between Ralph Schoenman (an activist in the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND)), and Hugh Brock, April Carter (both of the Direct Action Committee against nuclear war), Ralph Miliband, Alan Lovell and Stuart Hall.
