Ed Jurak
Edward James Jurak (born October 24, 1957) is an American retired baseball player. He played in Major League Baseball for parts of six seasons, from 1982 through 1989. Jurak played for the Boston Red Sox from 1982 to 1985, the Oakland Athletics in 1988 and the San Francisco Giants in 1989. After Boston released him in spring training of 1986, he played on the independent San Jose Bees of the California League that season. Jurak spent 1987 in the minor leagues for the Texas Rangers organization before returning to the big leagues in 1988. One of the finest moments of Jurak's career occurred during the Triple A All Star game in 1988. The game was nationally televised as a way to introduce the baseball audience to the best prospects in the sport. That night, Jurak, at the age of 30 and was hitting .314 for Tacoma, the top farm club of the Oakland A's, tripled and scored in the ninth inning as the American League defeated the National League 2-1. Utility Infielder
In baseball, a utility player is a player who typically does not have the offensive abilities to justify a regular starting role on the team but is capable of playing more than one defensive position. These players are able to give the various starters a rest, or replace a starter due to injury, or play late in a game to provide improved defense when their team is winning. Description Utility infielders typically play both second base and shortstop, sometimes also third base, and more rarely first base. A "fourth outfielder" is likewise an outfielder who can play all three outfield positions but does not have the hitting skills to be a starting player. Baseball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams of nine players each, taking turns batting and fielding. Bristol Red Sox
The Bristol Red Sox baseball club was an American minor league baseball franchise. Based in Bristol, Connecticut, it was the Double-A Eastern League farm system affiliate of the Boston Red Sox for ten seasons (1973–82) and played at Muzzy Field. Successor to original "PawSox" The team was created during the 1972–73 offseason, when the parent Red Sox decided to move their Triple-A franchise, the Louisville Colonels, to Pawtucket, Rhode Island, home of the Sox' Eastern League farm team, the Pawtucket Red Sox, since 1970. The Double-A PawSox' owner, Joe Buzas, selected Bristol as the site for his relocated EL franchise.
