Ecuador–Peru Border
The Ecuador–Peru border is an international border separating Ecuador from Peru. It extends from the Pacific Ocean to the Putumayo River within the Amazon rainforest, first following the Zarumilla and Chira rivers and crossing into the Cordillera del Cóndor. The history of the border was marked by a territorial dispute up until 1998, when the Brasilia Presidential Act was signed between then presidents Jamil Mahuad and Alberto Fujimori. The border was closed from 2020 to early 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Jamil Mahuad
Jorge Jamil Mahuad Witt (born 29 July 1949) is an Ecuadorian lawyer, academic and former politician who served the 41st president of Ecuador from 1998 until he was deposed in a coup in 2000. He previously served as the 17th mayor of Quito from 1992 to 1998. Born in Loja of German and Lebanese descent, Mahuad grew up studying law. He studied in the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador and earned a law degree from Harvard University. In 1988, Mahuad entered politics and ran unsuccessfully for the presidency in the elections held that year. He then became the Metropolitan Mayor of Quito in 1992. In 1998, Mahuad ran again for the presidency in the elections and narrowly won against Álvaro Noboa, the richest man in the country at the time. It separates Chile from Peru along a line that runs about 10 km north of the Arica–La Paz railway. The Brazil–Peru border is the line, located in the Amazon Rainforest, that limits the territories of Brazil and Peru. The Brazilian states of Amazonas and Acre border the eastern Peruvian regions of Loreto, Ucayali and Madre de Dios. Part of the limit was established in the Treaty of Rio de Janeiro in 1909. Colombia–Ecuador Border
The Colombia–Ecuador border is an international boundary between the territories of Colombia and Ecuador. It consists of two sections, one terrestrial and one marine, well-defined: The first section is a continuous line of 586 kilometres, running from east to west (from the Güepí River to the mouth of the Mataje River in Ancón de Sardinas Bay in the Pacific Ocean). It is about 28% of what was once the border between Colombia and Ecuador after the disintegration of the Great Colombia in 1830. The current land border was demarcated permanently by Muñoz-Suárez Vernaza Treaty on 15 July 1916. Cordillera Del Cóndor
The Cordillera del Cóndor (Condor mountain range) is a mountain range in the eastern Andes that is shared by and part of the international border between Ecuador and Peru. The range extends approximately 150 km north to south and its maximum elevation reaches approximately 2,900m. The Río Santiago and Cenepa River flow along its eastern slopes on the Peruvian side. For over 160 years, the area of the border was in dispute, and sparked armed conflicts between the two countries in 1941, 1981 and 1995. After the border conflict of 1995, the two countries began diplomatic negotiations, resulting in the 1998 peace treaty that established the exact location of the international border.
