Ecuador At The 2004 Summer Olympics
Ecuador competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, from 13 to 29 August 2004. This was the nation's tenth consecutive appearance at the Olympics, although it had first competed at the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris. Ecuadorian Olympic Committee ( es, Comité Olímpico Ecuatoriano) sent a total of 16 athletes, 10 men and 6 women, to compete in 7 sports; there was only a single competitor in boxing, shooting, swimming, and tennis. Five Ecuadorian athletes had previously competed in Sydney, including race walker Jefferson Pérez, who successfully made his fourth Olympic bid as the most experienced member. Meanwhile, tennis player Nicolás Lapentti returned for a major comeback at his second Olympics after an eight-year absence, missing out the previous Games due to injury. Weightlifter and Pan American Games champion Alexandra Escobar was selected to carry the Ecuadorian flag in the opening ceremony. Byron Piedra
Bayron Efrén Piedra Avilés (born August 19, 1982 in Cuenca) is an Ecuadorian middle distance and long-distance runner. He won the 2007 and 2008 editions of the Guayaquil Marathon. He also competed at the 2004 Olympic Games, the 2005 Summer Universiade, the 2007 World Championships, the 2008 Olympic Games and the 2012 Olympic Games without reaching the final round. He demonstrated his regional strength with a double gold in the 1500 metres and 5000 metres at the 2009 South American Championships in Athletics. Ayumi Tanimoto
born August 4, 1981, in Anjo, Aichi, is a Japanese judoka. She was coached by Toshihiko Koga, who is a gold medalist at the Barcelona Olympics and a silver medalist at the Atlanta Olympics Men's Judo. Tanimoto won the Women's -63 kg category gold medal at the Athens Olympics in 2004 and at the Beijing Olympics in 2008. In September 2005, she won the silver medal at the World judo championship games in Cairo, Egypt. Retirement Tanimoto retired from competitive judo in September 2010. In 2015, she became the assistant manager of Komatsu's judo club. For the Rio 2016 Olympics, she was a coach for the women's judo team. She is completing a postgraduate degree at Hirosaki University, and listed as a women's junior coach for the All Japan Judo Federation. Sergey Kazakov (born July 8, 1976) is a Russian amateur boxer best known to win the World Championships 2003 and European Championships 1998, 2002 and 2004 in the Men's Light Flyweight.
