Carmen Anita Chalá Quilumba (born June 7, 1976) is a judoka and former field athlete from Ecuador. Early life, family and education Carmen was born in the Ecuadoran province Carchi but at heart she is from Manabí. Her family has many athletes in it: older sister Eva, and younger sisters Diana and Vanessa have all been national judo team members. Athletic career Carmen Chalá was a national champion in athletics in shot put and discus throw. However, by 1995, realizing that there are not many chances to be a successful field athlete at an international level, she began learning and practicing judo. She was 29 years old, considered very late to begin an endeavor like that. Her older sister Eva Chalá inspired her to try judo as she was already involved in it herself; Eva later became a referee for the sport as well. Roberto Delgado Martillo (born April 3, 1975) is an American-Ecuadorian former swimmer who specialized in freestyle and butterfly events. A two-time Olympian (1996 and 2000), he holds numerous Ecuadorian records in both 100 and 200 m butterfly, and retains his dual resident status to compete internationally for his parents' homeland. While studying in the United States, Delgado has been listed as an all-time Top 10 performer in the 200 m butterfly for the Arizona State Sun Devils. The swimming competitions at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney took place from 16 to 23 September 2000 at the Sydney International Aquatic Centre in Homebush Bay. It featured 32 events (16 male, 16 female), and a total of 954 swimmers from 150 nations. The swimming program for 2000 was expanded from 1996, with the inclusion of the semifinal phase in each of the events except for some special cases. Carmen Elena Malo Merchán (born May 24, 1972 in Cuenca) is an Ecuadorian pistol shooter, who competed at three Olympic games. Malo made her official Olympic debut at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, where she finished twenty-first in the women's 10 m air pistol, with a score of 378 points, tying her position with Albania's Djana Mata, and Germany's Anke Völker, wife of multiple-time Olympic medalist Ralf Schumann. At the 2004 Summer Olympics, Malo competed in two pistol shooting events. She placed fortieth in the women's 10 m air pistol, with a score of 365 points, but managed to obtain her second attempt for a medal in the women's 25 m pistol.
