Ecstatic Peace Library
Ecstatic Peace Library is a British publishing company founded by Thurston Moore and visual book editor Eva Prinz in 2010. The name is derived from Ecstatic Peace!, a music label run by Thurston Moore. The company publishes mainly poetry, but also a collection of books about the early Norwegian black metal scene, experimental jazz from the 70s and other niche subjects. On 5 September 2018 Ecstatic Peace Library announced they would release the debut album ''Sistahs'' by the London band Big Joanie as part of their new Daydream Library Series. Thurston Moore
Thurston Joseph Moore (born July 25, 1958) is an American musician best known as a member of Sonic Youth. He has also participated in many solo and group collaborations outside Sonic Youth, as well as running the Ecstatic Peace! record label. Moore was ranked 34th in ''Rolling Stone''s 2004 edition of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time." In 2012, Moore started a new band Chelsea Light Moving. Chelsea Light Moving eponymous debut was released on March 5, 2013. Since 2015, Chelsea Light Moving has been disbanded after one studio album release. Moore and the other members of the band continue to make music under his solo project and other bands. Ecstatic Peace! is a record label based in Easthampton, Massachusetts, Easthampton, Massachusetts, founded in 1981 in music, 1981 by American musician Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth. The label name is borrowed from a line in Tom Wolfe's 1968 nonfiction novel ''The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test''. The label's releases are eclectic and often experimental or avant-garde. Early Norwegian Black Metal Scene
The early Norwegian black metal scene of the 1990s is credited with creating the modern black metal genre and produced some of the most acclaimed and influential artists in extreme metal. It attracted massive media attention when it was revealed that its members had been responsible for two murders, a suicide, and a wave of church burnings in Norway. The scene had an ethos and the core members referred to themselves as "The Black Circle" or "Black Metal Inner Circle". It consisted primarily of young men, many of whom gathered at the record shop Helvete ("Hell") in Oslo. In interviews, they voiced extreme anti-Christian and misanthropic views, presenting themselves as a cult-like group of militant Satanism, Satanists who wanted to spread terror, hatred and evil. Experimental Jazz
Avant-garde jazz (also known as avant-jazz and experimental jazz) is a style of music and improvisation that combines avant-garde art music and composition with jazz. It originated in the early 1950s and developed through to the late 1960s. Originally synonymous with free jazz, much avant-garde jazz was distinct from that style. Sistahs
''Sistahs'' is the debut album of Big Joanie. It was released in 2018 on Thurston Moore and Eva Prinz's Daydream Library Series label after the two saw the band open for The Ex and discovered that the band had yet to release an album. Composition ''Sistahs'' holds musical footing in art punk, post-punk and "fearlessly discordant" punk rock. It has been noted for pushing the latter genre forward. However, its songs are musically eclectic and experimental, with goth, jangle pop, lo-fi and trance sounds nestled in it. Leading single "Fall Asleep" is a "tough" dance-punk song that "burst forth with synths and handclaps", recalling 80s and 90s sounds. It also dons a "power pop base" and a "light new wave trance". "Used To Be Friends" takes on early-80s indie pop while echoing riot grrrl. "Down Down" is "sexy" surf rock with "a demented surf pop riff". Big Joanie
Big Joanie is a British punk trio formed in London in 2013. Its members are Stephanie Phillips (guitar and vocals), Estella Adeyeri (bass guitar and vocals), and Chardine Taylor-Stone (drums and vocals). After a few singles and EPs they released their first album in 2018 with Thurston Moore and Eva Prinz's Daydream Library Series, and have since signed to Kill Rock Stars in the U.S. History Formation and early releases Big Joanie was formed by Stephanie Phillips in 2013, who posted online asking for bandmates with whom to start a black feminist punk band after becoming frustrated with the lack of intersectionality in the scene. Chardine Taylor-Stone, who Phillips had met through Imkaan, and the band's original bassist Kiera Coward-Deyell responded.
