Eckersberg Medaillen
The Eckersberg Medal (originally the ''Akademiets Aarsmedaille'' or Annual Academy Medal) is an annual award of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. It is named after Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg, known as the father of Danish painting. The Eckersberg Medal was created in 1883, on the 100th birthday of its namesake. Royal Danish Academy Of Fine Arts
The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts ( da, Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi - Billedkunst Skolerne) has provided education in the arts for more than 250 years, playing its part in the development of the art of Denmark. History The Royal Danish Academy of Portraiture, Sculpture, and Architecture in Copenhagen was inaugurated on 31 March 1754, and given as a gift to the King Frederik V on his 31st birthday. Its name was changed to the Royal Danish Academy of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture in 1771. At the same event, Johann Friedrich Struensee introduced a new scheme in the academy to encourage artisan apprentices to take supplementary classes in drawing so as to develop the notion of "good taste". The building boom resulting from the Great Fire of 1795 greatly profited from this initiative. In 1814 the name was changed again, this time to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Carl Locher
Carl Locher (21 November 1851 – 20 December 1915) was a Danish realist painter who from an early age became a member of the Skagen group of painters. Biography Carl Ludvig Thilson Locher was born in Flensburg in the Duchy of Schleswig which was then part of Denmark. From an early age he took an interest in ships and received his first training from his father who painted ship portraits for a living. After the father died, he continued his business for a short while and went on several voyages with ships of the Royal Danish Navy. Struck by the grandeur of the Atlantic Ocean, a voyage to the Danish West Indies made a particular impression on him. Even before he began his studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Art in 1872, he was encouraged by Holger Drachmann to spend a couple of months in Skagen, the artists colony in the far north of Jutland. Anna Ancher
Anna Ancher (18 August 1859 – 15 April 1935) was a Danish artist associated with the Skagen Painters, an artist colony on the northern point of Jylland, Denmark. She is considered to be one of Denmark's greatest visual artists. Background Anna Kirstine Brøndum was born in Skagen, Denmark, the daughter of Ane Hedvig Møller (1826–1916) and Erik Andersen Brøndum (1820–1890). She was the only one of the Skagen Painters who was born and grew up in Skagen, where her father owned the Brøndums Hotel. The artistic talent of Anna Ancher became obvious at an early age and she became acquainted with pictorial art via the many artists who settled to paint in Skagen, in the north of Jylland. Carl Wentorf
Carl Christian Ferdinand Wentorf (25 April 1863 – 24 November 1914) was a Danish painter. His works included genre pieces and portraits. He won the Royal Danish Art Academy's Annual Medal in 1901. Biography Carl Wentorf was born in Copenhagen, the son of furnituremaker Heinrich Frederik Wentorf and Cecilie Juditha (née) Wandschneider. He attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1881 to 1887. He had his debut at the Charlottenborg Exhibition in 1897 with a portrait of the landscape painter Carl Frederik Aagaard. He travelled widely in the 1890s with economic support both from the Academy and Det Ancherske Legat, especially to Germany, France, Italy and the Netherlands.. Carl Vilhelm Holsøe (Aarhus, 12 March 1863 – Asserbo, 7 November 1935) was a Danish artist who primarily painted interiors. Life and career Holsøe was born in Aarhus. Thorvald Jørgensen
Thorvald Jørgensen (27 June 1867 - 15 May 1946) was a Danish architect, most known for his design of Christiansborg Palace, the seat of the Danish Parliament, after it had been destroyed in a fire. He has also designed a number of churches in Copenhagen. He was Royal Building Inspector from 1911 to 1938. Early life and education Thorval Jørgen was born in Norsminde outside Aarhus, Denmark. He completed a carpenter's apprenticeship in Aarhus in 1885 and then moved to Copenhagen where he was admitted to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts the same year, where he was taught by Hans Jørgen Holm, Martin Nyrop, Ferdinand Meldahl and Albert Jensen. Martin Borch
Martin Borch (1 March 1852 – 8 February 1937) was a Danish architect. Biography Borch was born at Skerngaard near Skjern, Denmark. He was the son of Frederik Borch (1807–1868) and Johanne Frederikke Borch née Frausing (1809–1886). He attended Randers Latin School from 1863 to 1866 and C.V. Nielsen's drawing school from 1868 to 1869. From 1869 to 1877, he attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. From 1886 to 1916, Borch was a permanent architect for the Danish sugar manufacturing company, De Danske Spritfabrikker. As a royal building inspector, he received many commissions for the University of Copenhagen and Danmarks Nationalbank. From 1893 to 1899, he was an assistant at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture. He received the Eckersberg Medal twice: in 1894 and in 1901.
