Ebenezer Particular Baptist Chapel, Hastings
Ebenezer Particular Baptist Chapel is a former Strict Baptist place of worship in Hastings, East Sussex, England. Founded in 1817 by members of the congregation of an older Baptist chapel in the ancient town, it was extended several times in the 19th century as attendances grew during Hastings' period of rapid growth as a seaside resort. It was closed and converted into a house in the late 20th century, but still stands in a prominent position in Hastings Old Town. English Heritage has listed the building at Grade II for its architectural and historical importance. History Hastings is one of the oldest settlements in Sussex. Its position—a sheltered natural harbour near fertile fishing grounds in the English Channel, surrounded by forests and marshes—allowed an autonomous settlement to develop from about the 8th century. Ebenezer Chapel, Heathfield
Ebenezer Chapel is a Strict Baptist place of worship in the hamlet of Broad Oak, part of the parish of Heathfield in the English county of East Sussex. The chapel was built in 1864. An Independent Baptist congregation was founded here in 1835 by a Horsham-based preacher. The present chapel is aligned to the Gospel Standard movement and was built in 1864. It is timber-framed, partly weatherboarded and rendered, and has been extended several times. Above the entrance there is a gable. The chapel is licensed for worship in accordance with the Places of Worship Registration Act 1855 and has the registration number 9014. Ebenezer Chapel, Aberavon (more correctly, "Ebenezer Baptist Church"), is a Baptist church in Port Talbot, Wales. Built in 1881, it is located in the Civic Square, where it is the only surviving building from the old Port Talbot town centre to have survived the wholesale demolition that preceded the construction of a new town centre during the mid-1970s; the address was formerly "Talbot Street". It has been a listed building since 1980. Ebeneser is a Baptist chapel in Ammanford, Carmarthenshire, Wales. Services at Ebeneser are conducted in the Welsh language. Early history The chapel was founded in 1849 by Baptists who had previously worshipped at neighbouring Llandyfan and Saron. The earliest meetings are said to have taken place in a house in Field Street, with thirteen members in the first instance. The following year, a new chapel which was named Ebeneser was built near Quay Street, adjacent to a property known as Primrose Cottage. Primrose Cottage was subsequently acquired by the chapel and served as the chapel caretaker's residence until it was demolished in the 1960s and replaced by a car park. The Rev. Daniel Jones of Felinfoel supported the church in its early years, baptising three female members in February 1850 and chairing the committee which oversaw the building of the chapel. Ebenezer Baptist Chapel is a place of worship in the town of Llandovery, Carmarthenshire, Wales. The building was constructed in 1844 and is located at Gelli Deg, Llandovery. It was built as a sister chapel to Cwmsarnddu Chapel, Cilycwm. Before Ebenezer Baptist Chapel was built, it is probable that the congregation met in a house in Stone Street. The chapel was built in 1844 and renovated in 1884 to 1885 by George Morgan of Carmarthen, before being extended in 1905 to accommodate more worshippers. The chapel is set back from the road with a long forecourt and faces down the length of Orchard Street. It is a simple, rectangular structure with central double door with pilasters, a moulded arch and keystone. Ebenezer was an Independent ( Congregationalist) chapel in Inkerman Street, Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, Wales. Services at Ebenezer were conducted in the Welsh language. The chapel was established in the 1880s after a number of members were expelled from the neighbouring Tabernacle According to the Hebrew Bible, the tabernacle ( he, מִשְׁכַּן, mīškān, residence, dwelling place), also known as the Tent of the Congregation ( he, link=no, אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד, ’ōhel mō‘ēḏ, also Tent of Meeting, etc.), ... church. The building was designed by the prolific chase builder, Thomas Thomas of Landore, at a cost of around £2,000. It could accommodate 800 people. T. Orchwy Bowen became minister in 1909 and remained until 1921. In 1917 he rejected a call to minister at Trefgarne Church in Pembrokeshire. Ebenezer, Trecynon was an Independent (Congregationalist) chapel in Ebenezer Street, Trecynon, Aberdare, Wales. It was one of the earliest Independent chapels in the Cynon Valley and remained an active place of worship until 2009. Early history The history of Ebenezer dates back to the late eighteenth century when a congregation including Independents and Calvinistic Methodists worshipped together in dwelling houses, and occasionally succeeded in getting an ordained minister to visit them. The two denominations separated towards the end of 1799. The Independent cause then continued at the home of one Timothy Davies, which became known as Ty'r Capel (Chapel House) In 1804 the small congregation adapted a small house on Penypound for use as a place of worship, and obtained a licence as a house of worship in the court of Llandaff on 16 October 1804. Ebenezer Chapel (also known as Marmet Christian Church) is a historic chapel on Ohio Avenue, south at Hillview Drive in Marmet, West Virginia. Origins The chapel was built in 1836 by slaves owned by Marmet's first settler, Leonard Morris (sheriff), Leonard Morris. Mr. Morris originally named the area Elizaville. By 1848, the building was owned by Luke Wilcox, a local farmer and manager of a local salt works. The chapel was for many years part of a circuit traveled by preachers of the United Methodist Episcopal Church. Civil War During the American Civil War (1861-1865) the chapel served as a military headquarters and as a hospital for Union soldiers. Camp Piatt (present day Belle, WV) sits immediately across the river where today DuPont sits. Jacob Conrad Edelmann was a German immigrant who worked on the river in Brownstown (present day Marmet).
