Eaton Harbors Corporation
The Eaton Harbors Corporation (EHC) is a New York business corporation created in 1927 by the heirs of Cornelius H. DeLamater to hold title to and maintain approximately of private roads and beaches located in Eatons Neck, New York. The EHC was formed due to the break-up of the vast Delamater Estate that at one time occupied over on the North Shore of Long Island on the Eatons Neck and Asharoken peninsula. Background The corporation was created on September 14, 1927 by the heirs of Cornelius H. DeLamater who at the time still collectively owned approximately of land in Eatons Neck and Asharoken. Mr. DeLamater was owner of the Delamater Iron Works in New York City. The iron works was responsible for constructing the turret and machinery of the Union Ironclad Monitor during the Civil War. Eatons Neck is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the Town of Huntington in Suffolk County, on the North Shore of Long Island, in New York, United States. The population was 1,406 at the 2010 census. There is a United States Coast Guard station at the northern tip of the hamlet. History In 1927, the bulk of Eatons Neck consisting of what is today known as the Morgan Estate and Two-Acre Zone was subdivided and sold by the heirs of Cornelius H. DeLamater. The Eaton Harbors Corporation was created to hold title to, and maintain, all the private beaches and roads on the former estate. History Asharoken incorporated as a village in 1925, so as to have a greater ability to control local beaches and roadways through home rule. Delamater-Bevin Mansion
The Delamater-Bevin Mansion, also known as The Bevin House, is a historic 22-room Victorian mansion on the north shore of Long Island within the Incorporated Village of Asharoken, New York. The estate is on the Eatons Neck landmass on the edge of Duck Island Harbor, an inlet of Northport Bay, off of Long Island Sound. History The home was built by Cornelius Henry DeLamater in 1862 in French Second Empire architectural style, and was originally known as Vermland. DeLamater, who owned over of Eaton's Neck, was the owner of the DeLamater Iron Works located in NYC where W. 13th St meets the Hudson River. The turret, engines, and weaponry on the Ironclad "Monitor" were built by DeLamater's foundry under the direction of noted marine engineer John Ericsson. The Town of Huntington is one of ten towns in Suffolk County, New York.
