Eastwick is a neighborhood in the Southwest section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. It is the southwesternmost neighborhood in the city, bordering Philadelphia International Airport and the city line with Delaware County, Pennsylvania at Cobbs Creek and Darby Creek. The Elmwood Park neighborhood borders it to the northeast. History The neighborhood is named for Andrew M. Eastwick. It was largely rural until the 1920s when swampy land was dredged to create room for an airport and other large-scale uses within the city limits. Much of the original housing built before the 1950s lacked sewer service and other urban conveniences. Residents referred to the neighborhood as "The Meadows." Eastwick station is a SEPTA Regional Rail station in Philadelphia. It serves the Airport Line to Philadelphia International Airport. Located below 84th Street and situated between Mario Lanza Boulevard and Bartram Avenue ( PA 291), it is the sole stop between central Philadelphia and the Philadelphia International Airport Terminals. Eastwick is within walking distance of the Eastwick Loop station of the 36 trolley which is located at Island Avenue and 80th Street. In 2013, this station saw 367 boardings and 421 alightings on an average weekday. The station is accessed from Interstate 95 northbound via exit 10 and southbound via exit 12B. Access to the station is granted via a cul-de-sac off of Bartram Avenue and also from Mario Lanza Boulevard. Edward Backhouse Eastwick CB (181416 July 1883, Ventnor, Isle of Wight) was an English orientalist, diplomat and Conservative Member of Parliament. He wrote and edited a number of books on South Asian countries. These included a Sindhi vocabulary and a grammar of the Hindustani language. Life and works Born a member of an Anglo-Indian family, he was educated at Charterhouse and at Merton College, Oxford. He joined the Bombay infantry in 1836, but, owing to his talent for languages, was soon given a political post. In 1843 he translated the Persian '' Kessahi Sanjan'', or ''History of the Arrival of the Parsees in India''; and he wrote a ''Life'' of Zoroaster, a Sindhi vocabulary, and various papers in the transactions of the Bombay Asiatic Society. Rawlins Jackson "Rawly" Eastwick (born October 24, 1950), is an American former professional baseball relief pitcher, who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, Kansas City Royals, and Chicago Cubs, from to . Career Eastwick was born in Camden, New Jersey, and grew up in Haddonfield, New Jersey, where he attended Haddonfield Memorial High School.
