Easts Tigers Rugby Union
Easts Rugby Union Club, known as Easts or Easts Tigers, is an Australian rugby union club based in Brisbane. The club plays in the Queensland Premier Rugby competition, and fields teams for males and females in several other grades and age-group competitions. Easts draws players mainly from Eastern and Southern suburbs of Brisbane, ranging from West End to Capalaba, and south to Mt Gravatt. The club's home ground is Bottomley Park at Coorparoo. The junior club boasts over 1000 players ranging from Tiger Cubs, Under 6 to Under 17. The club was founded in 1947 and has won the Hospital Cup for the Queensland Premiership five times. Queensland Premier Rugby
Queensland Premier Rugby is a semi professional club rugby union competition in Queensland, Australia. Nine clubs play in the competition, eight of which are from Brisbane with one club from the Gold Coast. The premiership has been contested in its present form since 1929. History Queensland Premier Rugby (QPR) evolved out of the Brisbane club competition that had been running since 1887. It was created by players, administrators, referees and coaches to expand and improve the top level of Queensland non-professional rugby. QPR provides Queensland rugby players a stepping stone for selection into the Queensland Reds and other teams in Super Rugby or other professional rugby competitions. Gene Fairbanks
Gene Fairbanks (born 8 August 1982, in Goondiwindi, Australia) is a retired professional Australian rugby union footballer. He played for the Reds, Brumbies, and Force in the Super Rugby competition as well as for Kintetsu Liners in Japan. A devastating defender his usual positions were inside centre or fly-half. Career His primary schooling was at St Mary's Goondiwindi where he excelled at sport, particularly athletics with his naturally talented brothers under his coach, Principal Bernard Holland. In secondary school he was educated at Downlands College in Toowoomba, Fairbanks played his senior club rugby for Easts Tigers and was invited to join the Reds Rugby College in 1997. Rugby Union In Queensland
Rugby union in Queensland has traditionally been one of the most popular professional and recreational team sports. The earliest known Rugby football matches were played in Brisbane from 1876 through to 1878. Rugby struggled to gain a foothold until it got its break in 1882 with the first inter-colonial matches against New South Wales, and the formation of the Northern Rugby Union. Between 1885 and 1887 it surpassed the popularity of Australian rules football in Queensland after the leading schools association decided to play it exclusively and after 1890 spread virtually unopposed throughout the colony. The rise of professional Rugby league in Queensland in 1908 and the Great War ultimately saw the disbandment of the Queensland Rugby Union (‘QRU’) after the 1919 season however it was later revived and continues to this day as ‘Queensland Rugby’. Seta Tawake
Setareki "Seta" Tawake Naivaluwaqa (born 1 March 1969 in Kavala, Kadavu) is a retired Fijian rugby union player, who was capped for Fiji on 31 occasions. He played as Openside flanker or Number 8. He played in two Rugby World Cups. He was also a soldier Tawake played both 7's and 15's. He studied at Nasinu Secondary School and he represented them in both 7's and 15's rugby. He made his international debut in 15's against Samoa on 20 June 1992 in Suva. He represented the Fiji sevens starting in 1996, until helping them to win the 1998 Hong Kong sevens. Mosese Nasau Rauluni (born 26 June 1975) is a retired Fijian rugby union footballer. He usually plays at scrum half, and played for Saracens F.C., Saracens in the Guinness Premiership in England. He has played for Fiji national rugby union team, Fiji, including captaining them. He is the younger brother of Jacob Rauluni and first cousin of Waisale Serevi. Jacob Rauluni
Jacob Rauluni (born 25 June 1972) is a former International Rugby Union player who comes from a family of international halfbacks. His father, Taito, played halfback for Fiji, as did his brother Mosese and his first cousin Waisale Serevi, who also started his career at halfback. Rauluni played for the Queensland Reds from 1995 to 2002 and he played for Fiji from 1995 to 2006. He had an extended spell playing rugby in the UK, and is best known for helping Rotherham Titans win promotion to the Premiership. In 2006 he played three tests for The Barbarians. Nigel Holt
Nigel Colin Holt (born 21 November 1961) is an Australian former rugby union international. Holt was born in the rural Queensland town of Winton and attended Anglican Church Grammar School in Brisbane. His mother Judy served on Redland City Council and during the 1970s established the shire's first convenience store. An imposing lock, Holt toured New Zealand with Queensland in 1982 and the following year gained a Wallabies call up for the tour of Italy and France, as a back up for David Hillhouse and Steve Williams. Neither of those players were named on the 1984 tour of Fiji and Holt was first choice lock for the one-off Test in Suva, which the Wallabies won 16–3. Ben Mowen
Ben Mowen (born 1 December 1984) is an Australian former professional rugby union player. He was the captain of the Australia national team and also the ACT Brumbies team in Super Rugby. He played at blindside flanker or number-eight. Early life Mowen was born in Brisbane and educated at Villanova College. He played for the Brisbane Easts club, and captained the Queensland under 19s.
