Eastern Intercollegiate Basketball League
The Eastern Intercollegiate Basketball League was an athletic conference for men's college basketball, beginning with the 1901–02 season and ending with the 1954–55 season. Its membership ranged from four to eight members; all of these teams now compete in the Ivy League, which began play in 1955–56 and considers its men's basketball league to be a continuation of the EIBL. The EIBL/Ivy is the oldest basketball conference in the National Collegiate Athletic Association; the next oldest, the Big Ten Conference, began play in 1905–06. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is a nonprofit organization that regulates student athletics among about 1,100 schools in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. It also organizes the athletic programs of colleges and universities in the United States and Canada and helps over 500,000 college student athletes who compete annually in college sports. The organization is headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. Until 1957, the NCAA was a single division for all schools. That year, the NCAA split into the University Division and the College Division. Cornell Big Red Baseball
The Cornell Big Red baseball team is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, United States. The team is a member of the Ivy League, which is part of NCAA Division I. Cornell's first baseball team was fielded in 1869 and participated in the Eastern Intercollegiate Baseball League (EIBL) until 1992. The team plays its home games at Hoy Field in Ithaca, New York. History Davy Hoy David "Davy" F. Hoy, an alumnus and longtime university registrar, served as the university's baseball advisor for thirty years at the start of the 20th century. He traveled south with the team for spring training each year. Hoy baseball field was built at his urging in 1922, and named for him in 1923. Hoy threw out the first pitch on the field; the ball he used is preserved in the Kroch Library collections. Harvard Crimson Men's Basketball
The Harvard Crimson men's basketball program represents intercollegiate men's basketball at Harvard University. The team currently competes in the Ivy League in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and plays home games at the Lavietes Pavilion in Boston, Massachusetts. Cornell Big Red Men's Basketball
The Cornell Big Red men's basketball team represents Cornell University (one of eight members of the Ivy League), located in Ithaca, New York, in NCAA Division I men's competition. The Big Red's appearance in the 2008 NCAA Tournament was their first trip to "The Big Dance" since 1988, ending a 20 year absence from the tournament. Columbia Lions Men's Basketball
The Columbia Lions basketball team is the basketball team that represents Columbia University in New York City. The school's team currently competes in the Ivy League. The team's last appearance in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament was in 1968. The Lions are led by head coach Jim Engles. Their home games are held in the Levien Gymnasium. Columbia began varsity intercollegiate competition in men's basketball in 1901. The Harvard Crimson baseball team is the varsity intercollegiate baseball team of Harvard University, located in Boston, Massachusetts. The program has been a member of the Ivy League since the conference officially began sponsoring baseball at the start of the 1993 season. The team plays at Joseph J.
