Eastern Indiana Conference
The Eastern Indiana Conference existed in Northeastern Indiana from 1953 to 1975. It consisted of schools from Adams, Blackford, Delaware, Jay, and Wells Counties. The conference is notable for having two county conferences (Adams and Jay) fold into it, in 1957 and 1967, respectively. However, two years after the Jay County Conference folded into the EIC, the four Jay County schools were the only programs left in the conference. This conference should not be confused with the Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference The Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference (EIAC) is a distinguished, eight-member IHSAA-sanctioned high school athletic conference. Ossian, IN
Ossian is a town in Jefferson Township, Wells County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. The town was named after Ossian, the narrator of a cycle of epic poems by the Scottish poet James Macpherson. The population was 3,289 at the 2010 census. History The Ossian post office has been in operation since 1850. In 1843, Indiana State Road 1 was made serviceable from Fort Wayne to Bluffton. On January 25, 1850, the Fort Wayne and Bluffton Plank Road Company was then organized. The plank road was a toll road; any horse or horse-drawn vehicle had to pay a toll. The Fort Wayne, Cincinnati, & Louisville Railroad was built through Ossian in 1869, though it was not in complete operation until the following year. Norwell High School (Indiana)
Norwell High School is a public high school located approximately 4 miles southwest of Ossian, Indiana. About Norwell High School opened in the fall of 1967 after a consolidation between Ossian and Lancaster Central High Schools. The first graduating class, the Class of 1968 was separated between the two schools while construction was completed on the current campus. The Class of 1969 was the first to graduate from the school at its current location. The school serves the entire Northern Wells Community Schools school district. Monroe is a town in Washington and Monroe townships, Adams County, Indiana, United States. The population of the town was 945 residents at the 2019 census. Adams Central Community Schools is located in Monroe. History Monroe was platted in 1847. It was named for James Monroe, fifth President of the United States. Monroe was originally the Adams County seat but this was moved to Decatur after flooding problems in the town. The Monroe area has consistently been the American region with the highest percentage of people descended from those of Swiss nationality. Roll, Indiana
Roll (pronounced "r-awl', rhymes with "fall") is an unincorporated community in Washington Township, Blackford County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. Nearly all of the community's businesses have been closed for years. Redkey is a town in Richland Township, Jay County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,353 at the 2010 census. History Redkey was named for James Redkey, who platted an addition to the town when the railroad was built through it in 1867. The area was originally known as the Wade Settlement, after the family of Josiah Wade, who settled there in 1836. His son William Harrison Wade platted a village there in 1854, which he called Mt. Vernon. James Redkey platted his addition in 1856, but when application was made for a government post office, the name Mt. Vernon was already taken, so the name of Redkey was chosen.
