East Tawakoni
East Tawakoni ( ) is a city in Rains County, Texas, United States. The population was 883 at the 2010 census. East Tawakoni is located on the east side of Lake Tawakoni, while its twin city West Tawakoni is located on the west side of the lake. History Marketed as a relaxed rural community with easy access to Dallas, East Tawakoni was established on June 6, 1967, after an election in which 30 of 45 residents voted in favor of incorporation. A mayor (Grady A. Whitehead) and five aldermen (Raymond Briggs, A.L. Williams, D.A. "Doc" Vincent, A.O. Murphrey, and T.E. Bell) were elected on June 27, 1967. In a local option election held on February 6, 1968, residents voted 38–32 (54.3%–45.7%) in favor of selling alcoholic beverages. Texas State Highway 276
State Highway 276 (SH 276) is a Texas state highway that runs from Rockwall east to Emory. This route was designated on July 25, 1960, between Rockwall and Quinlan, replacing FM 1143 and part of FM 35. SH 276 was extended to its current terminus on October 25, 1990, replacing most of FM 35. History SH 276 was designated on September 7, 1938, as a route between US 285 southeast of Arno and Mentone. On April 16, 1946, another section from SH 115 to what was then SH 82 (now SH 18) in Kermit was added. On August 12, 1946, that section was transferred to SH 302. On December 1, 1953, SH 276 was transferred to SH 302. 2020 United States Census
The United States census of 2020 was the twenty-fourth decennial United States census. Census Day, the reference day used for the census, was April 1, 2020. Other than a pilot study during the 2000 census, this was the first U.S. census to offer options to respond online or by phone, in addition to the paper response form used for previous censuses.
