Smithfield, Rhode Island
Smithfield is a town that is located in Providence County, Rhode Island, United States. It includes the historic villages of Esmond, Georgiaville, Mountaindale, Hanton City, Stillwater and Greenville. The population was 22,118 at the 2020 census. Smithfield is the home of Bryant University, a private four year college. History The area comprising modern-day Smithfield was first settled in 1663 as a farming community by several British colonists, including John Steere. The area was originally within the boundaries of Providence until 1731 when Smithfield was incorporated as a separate town. Providence Children's Museum
The Providence Children's Museum is a non-profit children's museum in Providence, Rhode Island. The museum is located at 100 South Street in the city's Jewelry District. In 1976, the museum was founded as the "Rhode Island Children's Museum", the first and currently the only children's museum in the state. Originally, the Pawtucket Congregational Church leased its Pitcher-Goff House to the museum, and the building was renovated with exhibits, play spaces, and activities for children and opened in 1977. Roger Williams Park Zoo
The Roger Williams Park Zoo of Providence, Rhode Island, contains more than 150 animals from around the world in natural settings. In 1986, it became the first zoo in New England to earn accreditation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Founded in 1872, it is the third oldest zoo in the nation. Greenville Public Library is a public library at 573 Putnam Pike in the village of Greenville in the town of Smithfield, Rhode Island directly across from the William Winsor School.
