East San Jose (abbreviated as ESJ), commonly called The East Side and less commonly as the East Valley, is the eastern region of the city of San Jose, California. The East Side is made up of numerous neighborhoods grouped into two larger districts: Alum Rock and Evergreen. East San Jose is bordered by the Diablo Range to the east and south, the Coyote Creek to the west, and Mabury Road to the North. East San Jose is one of the city's most diverse regions, home to landmarks such as the historic Chicano/Mexican-American neighborhoods of Mayfair and King & Story, as well as the Gurdwara Sahib of San Jose, the largest Sikh temple in the world outside of India. East San José Carnegie Branch Library
The East San José Carnegie Branch Library is a Carnegie library in San Jose, California, USA. It opened in 1908 and is the last Carnegie library in Santa Clara County still operating as a public library. It is a part of the San José Public Library. History Originally the only library in East San Jose, built for $7,000 in 1907, the library joined the City of San Jose system when East San Jose was annexed by San Jose. The original building was renovated and added to in 1981. In 1990 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Another renovation of the branch, including a addition to the original historic structure, was begun on February 14, 2008. The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly reopened branch took place at 11:00am on August 29, 2009. Mexican Heritage Plaza
The Mexican Heritage Plaza - Centro Cultural de San José is a Chicano/ Mexican-American cultural center in San Jose, California, located in the Mayfair neighborhood of East San Jose. History Mexican Heritage Plaza opened in 1999. It is operated by the School of Arts and Culture. Facilities The plaza includes a 500-seat theater, gardens, classrooms, and meeting spaces.
