East Rutherford High School
East Rutherford High School was a public high school that operated as part of the East Rutherford School District in East Rutherford, in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. History The district's initial high school program began in 1896, with the first graduate completing their program two years later. The school had served students from Carlstadt on a tuition basis until its closure and the opening of the joint regional high school. Students from Wallington had attended the school as part of a sending/receiving relationship until the opening of Wallington High School in 1951. The school building was partially destroyed in an October 1966 fire that destroyed half of the space used by the high school. The school closed at the end of the 1970–71 school year, was succeeded by Henry P. Becton Regional High School, which was built to serve students from both East Rutherford and Carlstadt. Steven Vincent Hamas (January 9, 1907 – October 11, 1974), also known as Hurricane and the Passaic Pounder, was an American football player and boxer. He was a multi-sport athlete at Pennsylvania State University in the late 1920s, receiving 12 varsity letters in football, boxing, lacrosse, basketball, and track and field. He played professional football in the National Football League (NFL) in 1929 and then turned to professional boxing, defeating former heavyweight champions Tommy Loughran and Max Schmeling. The Brooklyn Dodgers were an American football team that played in the National Football League from 1930 to 1943, and in 1944 as the Brooklyn Tigers. The team played its home games at Ebbets Field of the baseball National League's team, the Brooklyn Dodgers. In 1945, because of financial difficulties and the increasing scarcity of major league-level players because of the war-time defense requirements at the height of World War II, the team was merged with the Boston Yanks and were known as the Yanks for that season. Brian Dwight Taylor (born June 9, 1951) is an American former professional basketball player who played for the New York Nets of the American Basketball Association (ABA) and the Kansas City Kings, Denver Nuggets, and San Diego Clippers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Basketball career A 6'2" guard from Princeton University, he was selected by the Seattle SuperSonics in the second round of the 1972 NBA draft. However, he began his professional career with the New York Nets of the ABA, for whom he played four seasons, appearing in two ABA All-Star Games. When the Nets joined the NBA in 1976, they traded Taylor to the Kansas City Kings along with Jim Eakins and 2 first round draft picks in exchange for Hall of Famer Tiny Archibald.
