East Lynne (1925 Film)
''East Lynne'' is a 1925 American silent drama film directed by Emmett J. Flynn and starring Alma Rubens, Edmund Lowe, and Lou Tellegen. The film is based on the bestselling 1861 Victorian novel of the same name by Ellen Wood. The scenario was written by Lenore Coffee and the film's director, Emmett J. Flynn. Distributed by Fox Film Corporation, the film was a hit for the studio grossing $1.1 million. Plot As described in a review in a film magazine, Carlyle (Lowe), a wealthy young Englishman buys a debt-ridden estate from Lord Mount-Severn (Mayne) and persuade his daughter, Lady Isabel (Rubens), to marry him though she loves the rascally Sir Francis (Tellegen). Years pass, and this pair are blessed with two little kiddies. Lydia Knott (October 1, 1866 – March 30, 1955) was an American actress of the silent film era. She appeared in more than 90 films between 1914 and 1937. Biography Knott was born in Tyner, Indiana, the daughter of Lambert and Clarissa Knott. She died in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles. She was the mother of director Lambert Hillyer. For years, Knott was David Higgins' leading lady. She acted in Repertory theatre, stock theater in Albany, Chicago, Cincinnati, and Toledo, among other cities. Gus "Pop" Leonard (February 4, 1859 – March 27, 1939) was an American film actor. Biography The French-born actor began his long career on the stage in San Francisco, California, while he was still a child in the 1860s. In later years, he specialised in a drunken waiter act in vaudeville. Leonard started his film career in 1915 and mostly played supporting roles in slapstick comedies. He appeared in nearly 190 films between 1916 and 1937. He appeared in the '' Our Gang'' comedies: '' Mush and Milk'', '' Teacher's Beau'' and '' The Lucky Corner''. Paul Wolfgang Panzerbeiter (November 3, 1872 – August 16, 1958), known professionally as Paul Panzer, was a German-American silent film actor. He appeared in more than 330 films between 1905 and 1952. Biography Panzer was born in Würzburg.Bavaria. His education included studying pharmacy at the University of Wurzburg and studying vocal music at the Conservatory of Wurzburg. He was a lieutenant in German's artillery reserves when he left there. Panzer's early work building sets and painting scenes for a New York City film studio developed his interest in the film industry.
