East High School (Columbus, Ohio)
East High School is a public high school located on the near east side of Columbus, Ohio at 1500 E. Broad Street. It is a part of Columbus City Schools. It was originally constructed in 1922. Renovation work at East High School was completed in December 2008. The work included restoring numerous skylights throughout the building, refinishing the solid woodwork and wrought iron railings, as well as installing energy-efficient lighting fixtures. The new capacity is 1032 students. Included in the renovation was the addition of a gymnasium, which features three full-sized basketball courts and seating for 1850 spectators. The total construction cost was $28.2 million. Columbus () is the state capital and the most populous city in the U.S. state of Ohio. Latyna M. Humphrey is an American politician serving as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from the 2nd district. She assumed office on October 13, 2021. Early life and education Humphrey was born in Columbus, Ohio and attended Columbus East High School. Chuckie Williams
Chuckie Williams (born December 31, 1953) is an American former professional basketball player. Life A guard, Williams played at Kansas State University from 1972 to 1976 for head coach Jack Hartman. One of the school's most potent long-range shooters, Williams was a four-year letterman from 1972–76. He helped lead the Wildcats to an 82–30 (.732) record, including two NCAA Elite Eight appearances and the 1973 Big Eight regular-season championship. Ironically, he spanned the years between his fellow retirees and was a teammate of both Mike Evans and Lon Kruger. After averaging just 5.3 points as a sophomore, Williams made one of the biggest scoring jumps in school history the following season as he paced the Wildcats in scoring at 22.1 points per game en route to guiding K-State to the 1975 Elite Eight. Granville Waiters
Granville S. Waiters (January 8, 1961 – March 23, 2021) was an American professional basketball player. At 6 ft 11 in (2.11 m) and 225 lb (102 kg), Waiters played center. As a senior in high school, Waiters helped Columbus East to a state championship over St. Joseph, who were led by his eventual Buckeyes and Pacers teammate Clark Kellogg. During the 1982-83 season for Ohio State, he was a team captain and averaged 10.4 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. He was drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers in the second round of the 1983 NBA draft. The Blazers sold his draft rights to the Indiana Pacers, and Waiters spent his first two seasons in Indiana. He then played one year for the Houston Rockets which saw him make an appearance in the 1986 NBA Finals and then two years for the Chicago Bulls, before he left the NBA for Europe in 1988. Thelma Thall
Thelma Thall “Tybie” Sommer (born 1924) is the only living American woman to have won two World Table Tennis Championships. She received the USA Table Tennis Lifetime Achievement Award, and is in the Table Tennis Hall of Fame. She says that she excelled "because of her natural athleticism and her ability to analyze and remain objective." Early career Thall was born in 1924 in Columbus, Ohio, and is Jewish. A tomboy as a little girl, she played much football and softball. When she was 13, she won a tennis racket in a Bingo game. Never having had any lessons, and yet seeing the similarities with softball, she represented Livingston Park and won the City Junior Tennis Championship. Ed Ratleff
William Edward "Easy Ed" Ratleff (born March 29, 1950) is an American retired basketball player. He attended Columbus East High School where he led his high school basketball team to the Ohio State Championship in 1968 and was joined by Dwight "Bo" Lamar to claim the 1969 Ohio High School title. In college, Ratleff was a two-time first-team All-American at Long Beach State. He was chosen for the 1972 U.S. Men's Olympic Basketball Team and participated in the Munich Games. He was selected with the sixth pick of the NBA Draft and played five NBA seasons. James Lawrence Marshall (born December 30, 1937) is an American former professional football player who was a defensive end for the Cleveland Browns (1960) and the Minnesota Vikings (1961–1979) in the National Football League (NFL). At the time of his retirement, he owned the career records for most consecutive starts (270) and games played (282), which both still stand as records for a defensive player in any position. Dwight "Bo" Lamar (born April 7, 1951) is a former professional American basketball player. Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, he graduated from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Lamar was a leading NCAA scorer and was the No. 1 overall pick in the 1973 American Basketball Association Draft. Ohio Stadium is an American football stadium in Columbus, Ohio, on the campus of Ohio State University. It primarily serves as the home venue of the Ohio State Buckeyes football team and is also the site for the university's Spring Commencement ceremonies each May. Charles Wesley "Chic" Harley (September 15, 1895 – April 21, 1974) was an American football player and athlete, often credited with bringing Ohio State University's football program to national attention. Harley was Ohio State's first consensus first-team All-America selection and first three-time All-America selection. In 1951, he became a charter inductee in the College Football Hall of Fame.
