East Donegal Township, Pennsylvania
East Donegal Township is a township in northwestern Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. At the 2020 census, the population was 8,690. History It is named after County Donegal, Ireland. The original township of Donegal was organized by the court of Chester County in 1722, and was one of the two townships which composed Lancaster County at the time of its erection in 1729. On the 24th of June, 1838, a division was effected, whereby the old township was constituted into two townships, to be separately and distinctly recognized as East Donegal and West Donegal. The settlers of East Donegal were of Scots-Irish descent and were primarily farmers who were drawn to the area by the rich soils and plentiful streams. Thus the abundant produce provided by the land was able to be made into flour by the many mills which sprang up in the area. Donegal Mills Plantation
Donegal Mills Plantation is a historic grist mill complex located at East Donegal Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The complex consists of the mill, mansion, miller's house, and bake house. The mill was built in 1775, and is a three-story building. The original section of mansion was built before 1790, and is a two-story, stuccoed stone building with a gable roof. The mansion was expanded about 1820, with a frame kitchen wing, and about 1830, with a stone two-story addition. It features a full-length, two-story, porch supported by five brick and stucco columns. The miller's house was originally built about, and is a -story, stuccoed stone building with a gable roof. Maytown, Pennsylvania
Maytown is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The population was 4,098 at the 2020 census. History Maytown is noted as the birthplace of 19th-century politician Simon Cameron, who served in the Cabinet of President Abraham Lincoln.
