East Chatham, New York
East Chatham is a hamlet located partly in the town of Chatham and partly in the town of Canaan, in the state of New York, United States. It is located at the crossroads of a railroad, Interstate 90, and the Taconic State Parkway. East Chatham is the site of Vovcha Tropa, a campsite owned by Plast, the Ukrainian Scouting Organization. This camp is attended by several hundred scouts. The Rowe-Lant Farm was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2010. Emma Jane Cady
Emma Jane Cady (November 13, 1854-October 27, 1933) was an American painter known for her theorem paintings. Life and work Cady was a native of East Chatham, New York, the oldest of three children of farmer Norman J. Cady. Her family was initially from Connecticut, but migrated to Columbia County in the middle of the eighteenth century. She was remembered by neighbors and family members as beautiful, strong-willed, and active; none remembered her artistic endeavors. Census records give her occupation as "housework". Cady remained unmarried throughout her life. After the deaths of her parents she moved in with a nephew; around 1920 she moved again, to Grass Lake, Michigan, where she lived with her sister and sister's family until her death. Rowe-Lant Farm is a historic home and farm complex located at East Chatham in Columbia County, New York. The farmhouse was built about 1790 and is an L-shaped dwelling with a 2-story, brick main block and -story brick and frame wing. It is five bays wide and two bays deep with a gable roof.
