East Carrizo Creek
East Carrizo Creek rises in Las Animas County, Colorado north of Mt. Carrizo and east of Kim, Colorado, and flows generally southeast before turning south. It joins with West Carrizo Creek at a point about 6 miles north of the Preston Monument to form North Carrizo Creek. North Carrizo Creek then flows generally south-southeast into Oklahoma to join the Cimarron River northeast of Kenton, Oklahoma. East Carrizo Creek flows through Carrizo Canyon, a small canyon located within the Comanche National Grassland that is dotted with juniper and cottonwood trees, and along which American Indian petroglyphs can be found. The location includes a hiking trail and a picnic area. Carrizo Creek (New Mexico/Texas)
The Carrizo Creek of New Mexico and Texas is a watercourse. It extends from west of Grenville, New Mexico into Texas, flowing into Rita Blanca Creek just west of Dalhart, Texas. With Rita Blanca Creek being a tributary of the Canadian River, water from Carrizo Creek eventually travels via the Arkansas and Mississippi rivers to reach the Gulf of Mexico. It is sometimes also known as the Carrizo River. South Carrizo Creek
South Carrizo Creek forms either just west of the Oklahoma line in New Mexico, or east inside Oklahoma to the northwest of Wheeless, Oklahoma. It is intermittent. It travels generally northeast through Black Mesa State Park where it is impounded to form Lake Carl Etling, before being joined by Willow Creek and continuing northeast to flow into the Cimarron River. Comanche National Grassland
Comanche National Grassland is a National Grassland located in southeastern Colorado, United States. It is the sister grassland of Cimarron National Grassland and contains both prairie grasslands and canyons. It is separated into two sections, each operated by a local ranger district, one of which is in Springfield and the other of which is in La Junta. The grassland is administered by the Forest Service together with the Pike and San Isabel National Forests, and the Cimarron National Grassland, from common headquarters located in Pueblo, Colorado. Geography Comanche National Grassland consists of in two units: (1) Timpas, south of La Junta, and (2) Carrizo, south of Springfield.
