History The area was originally the territory of the Iroquois confederacy. The Seneca tribe, Seneca village Ganondagan was destroyed by the Jacques-René de Brisay de Denonville, Marquis de Denonville, Marquis de Denonville in 1687 as part of his campaign against the tribe. The Ganondagan State Historic Site was part of the original Town of Bloomfield, but in the present day is part of the town of Victor, New York, Victor. Seneca Tribe
The Seneca () ( see, Onödowáʼga:, "Great Hill People") are a group of Indigenous Iroquoian-speaking people who historically lived south of Lake Ontario, one of the five Great Lakes in North America. Their nation was the farthest to the west within the Six Nations or Iroquois League (Haudenosaunee) in New York before the American Revolution. George And Addison Wheeler House
George and Addison Wheeler House, also known as Old Place, is a historic home located at East Bloomfield in Ontario County, New York. The Greek Revival–style home was built in two sections in about 1818 and 1840. The 2-story main block from 1840 features a temple front with a massive, pedimented portico. Behind it stands a -story wing that was the original saltbox-style home constructed about 1818. Also on the property is a 19th-century barn / carriage house and a small family cemetery. Abandoned for a generation, it was restored in the late 1940s by William and Marie Houghton. Northern Spy
The Northern Spy, also called 'Spy' and 'King', is a cultivar of domesticated apple that originated on the farm of Oliver Chapin in East Bloomfield, New York, in about 1840. It is popular in upstate New York. The Northern Spy was one of four apples honored by the United States Postal Service in a 2013 set of four 33¢ stamps commemorating historic strains, joined by Baldwin, Golden Delicious, and Granny Smith. Description Northern Spy produces fairly late in the season (late October and beyond). Skin color is a green ground, flushed with red stripes where not shaded. The white flesh is juicy, crisp and mildly sweet with a rich, aromatic subacid flavor, noted for high vitamin C content. West Bloomfield, New York
West Bloomfield is a town in Ontario County, New York, United States. The population was 2,760 at the 2020 census. The Town of West Bloomfield is on the county's western border and sits parallel to the Town of East Bloomfield, both of which lie south of the City of Rochester. The Phelps and Gorham Purchase was the purchase in 1788 of of land in what is now western New York State from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for $1,000,000 ( £300,000), to be paid in three annual installments, and the pre-emptive right to the title on the land from the Six Nations of the Iroquois Confederacy for $5000 (£12,500). A syndicate formed by Oliver Phelps and Nathaniel Gorham bought preemptive rights to the parcel - larger than six present U.S. states: Vermont, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, and Rhode Island - in New York, west of Seneca Lake between Lake Ontario and the Pennsylvania border, from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
