Earthling (band)
Earthling is an English trip hop band from Bristol, England. Members * Mau, rapper * Tim Saul, producer Contributor * Andy Keep, multi-instrumentalist Work The group produced two albums before splitting: 1995's ''Radar'' (with scratching, on three tracks, by Portishead's Geoff Barrow) and 1997's ''Human Dust'' (unreleased until 2004). The group had moderate success, appearing on '' Later... with Jools Holland'' and being remixed by Portishead. They had a number 1 single in Israel. ''Radar'' has been described by Popmatters as still standing "as a respectable complement and contrast to '' Dummy'', ''Maxinquaye'', and ''Protection''". Now Saul now makes music for documentaries and adverts. Mau became a member of the band Dirty Beatniks, and later appeared on two Télépopmusik albums under the pseudonym Soda-Pop. Trip Hop
Trip hop (sometimes used synonymously with "downtempo") is a musical genre that originated in the early 1990s in the United Kingdom, especially Bristol. It has been described as a psychedelic music, psychedelic fusion of hip hop music, hip hop and electronica with slow tempos and an atmospheric sound, often incorporating elements of jazz, soul music, soul, funk, reggae, dub music, dub, Contemporary R&B, R&B, and other forms of electronic dance music, electronic music, as well as sample (music), sampling from movie soundtracks and other eclectic sources. Maxinquaye
''Maxinquaye'' is the debut album by English rapper and producer Tricky, released on 20 February 1995 by 4th & B'way Records, a subsidiary of Island Records. In the years leading up to the album, Tricky had grown frustrated with his limited role in the musical group Massive Attack and wanted to pursue an independent project. Shortly after, he met with vocalist Martina Topley-Bird, who he felt would offer a wider vision to his music, and signed a solo contract with 4th & B'way in 1993. Tricky recorded ''Maxinquaye'' the following year primarily at his home studio in London, with Topley-Bird serving as the album's main vocalist, while Alison Goldfrapp, Ragga and Mark Stewart performed additional vocals. The Official Albums Chart is a list of albums ranked by physical and digital sales and (from March 2015) audio streaming in the United Kingdom. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on UKChartsPlus as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. However, even though number 100 was classed as a hit album (as in the case of The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums) in the 1980s until January 1989, since the compilations were removed this definition was changed to Top 75 with follow-up books such as The Virgin Book of British Hit Albums book only including this data. Cooltempo Records
Cooltempo, the dance music imprint of Chrysalis Records, was revived in May 2018. The label released albums by artists such as Kenny Thomas, Milli Vanilli, Adeva, Shara Nelson, Mica Paris and Innocence. History Cooltempo emerged at the end of the 1980s during the height of the UK acid house scene, signing dance acts such as Monie Love and Adeva. As the dance scene became increasingly fragmented, Cooltempo continued with soul/jazz vocalists such as Juliet Roberts, later branching out with jazz/hip hop artists Guru, Gang Starr, Brand New Heavies and Arrested Development. DJ Trevor Nelson worked with the label from 1993 and signed Lynden David Hall and D'Angelo.
