Earl W. Vincent
Earl W. Vincent (March 27, 1886 – May 22, 1953) was a Republican U.S. Representative from Iowa's 9th congressional district in 1928-29, a delegate to the Republican State convention in 1930, and was appointed judge of the fifth judicial district of Iowa in February 1945. Born in Washington County, Iowa, near Keota, Vincent attended rural schools. He graduated from Keota High School in 1904, from Monmouth College in Illinois in 1909, and from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1912. He was admitted to the bar in 1912 and commenced practice in Guthrie Center, Iowa. He served as prosecuting attorney of Guthrie County from 1919 to 1922. Washington County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 22,565. The county seat is Washington. Washington County is included in the Iowa City Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Washington County was originally formed in 1838 as Slaughter County in honor of William B. Slaughter, the secretary of Wisconsin Territory. The county, still named Slaughter County, became part of Iowa Territory on July 4, 1838, when it was organized. To honor George Washington, the county opted to change its name on January 25, 1839. The first settlers arrived in Washington County in 1835. The homesteads did not start until 1836. A town, Astoria, was built in the present township of Oregon; it became the first county seat and housed the first court house. The county seat was moved to the city of Washington in 1839. Charles Edward Swanson
Charles Edward Swanson (January 3, 1879 – August 22, 1970) served two terms as a Republican U.S. Representative from Iowa's 9th congressional district. His congressional career ended in the landslide that accompanied the election of Franklin D. Roosevelt to his first term as president. Swanson was born in a farm near Galesburg, Illinois to Swedish immigrants, he attended the public schools in Galesburg. In 1890 he moved to Iowa with his parents, who settled on a farm in Ringgold County. He resumed his studies in the public school at Clearfield, Iowa. He returned to Galesburg to attend Knox College, where he graduated in 1902. He then served as principal of schools at Altona, Illinois from 1902 to 1904. He attended law school at Northwestern University and graduated in 1907, when he was admitted to the bar. Monmouth ( , ; cy, Trefynwy meaning "town on the Monnow") is a town and community in Wales. It is situated where the River Monnow joins the River Wye, from the Wales–England border. Monmouth is northeast of Cardiff, and west of London. It is within the Monmouthshire local authority, and the parliamentary constituency of Monmouth.
