Earl Heyman (born September 5, 1987) is a former American football defensive tackle, earning a Super Bowl ring with the New Orleans Saints against the Indianapolis Colts. College career Heyman played college football at Louisville, finishing his career with 112 tackles, 8.5 sacks, one Interception, 7 pass deflections and 2 Forced fumbles. Professional career New Orleans Saints On May 11, 2009, Heyman signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent. On September 5, 2009, he was released, and was signed to the practice squad. On February 19, 2010, he again was signed to a roster contract, and released on July 29 of that year. Edmonton Eskimos On August 23, 2010, Heyman signed with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League to join the practice roster. Defensive Tackle
A defensive tackle (DT) is a position in American football that will typically line up on the line of scrimmage, opposite one of the offensive guards, however he may also line up opposite one of the tackles. Defensive tackles are typically the largest and strongest of the defensive players. Depending on a team's individual defensive scheme, a defensive tackle may be called upon to fill several different roles. These roles may include merely holding the point of attack by refusing to be moved, or penetrating a certain gap between offensive linemen to break up a play in the opponent's backfield. If a defensive tackle reads a pass play, his primary responsibility is to pursue the quarterback, or simply knock the pass down at the line if it is within arm's reach.
