Earl Heikka
Earl Heikka (May 3, 1910 – May 18, 1941) was an American sculptor. He designed figurines and statues of the Old West, miners, and horses. He committed suicide at age 31. Early life Heikka was born on May 3, 1910, in Belt, Montana. Both his parents were immigrants from Finland. His father, who served as an alderman in Belt, died when Heikka was four, and the latter grew up in Great Falls, Montana. Heikka graduated from the Great Falls High School. Career Heikka opened his first studio on actor Gary Cooper's ranch in 1929. He was introduced to William Andrews Clark, III, the grandson of mining magnate William A. Clark, by Cooper in 1930. It was thanks to Clark that Heikka exhibited his work at the Stendahl Galleries in the Ambassador Hotel, Los Angeles in 1931. Heikka subsequently exhibited his work in Dallas, Texas in 1936, and at the Golden Gate International Exposition in San Francisco in 1939. W. A. Belt, Montana
Belt is a town in Cascade County, Montana, United States. The population was 510 according to the 2020 census. It is part of the Great Falls, Montana metropolitan area. Elevation is 3,510 ft (1,070 m). Belt has won many state championships, their most recent one placing first in state football. Belt is a well-rounded school, with smart kids and athletic kids. History Belt was home to Montana's first coal mine. It supplied fuel to Fort Benton. The post office opened on February 2, 1885, with Eugene Clingan as postmaster. Kalispell (, Montana Salish: Ql̓ispé, Kutenai language: kqayaqawakⱡuʔnam) is a city in, and the county seat of, Flathead County, Montana, United States. The 2020 census put Kalispell's population at 24,558. In Montana's northwest region, it is the largest city, and the commercial center, of the Kalispell Micropolitan Statistical Area. The name Kalispell is a Salish word meaning "flat land above the lake". History Using his own capital, Charles Edward Conrad, a businessman and banker from Fort Benton, Montana, formed the Kalispell Townsite Company with three other men.
