Eaglehawk Football Club
The Eaglehawk Football Netball Club is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the town of Eaglehawk, Victoria and have competed in every BFL season since the league began in 1880, with the exception of 1904. Eaglehawk teams currently compete in the Bendigo Football Netball League (BFNL). Eaglehawk drew level with Sandhurst in 2007 when they won their 26th premiership. The following year they were premiers again, setting a new league record. Eaglehawk have won the most senior football premierships in the BFNL with 28. Bendigo Football League
The Bendigo Football Netball League (previously known as the Sandhurst Football Association, Bendigo and District Football Association, Bendigo Football Association and Bendigo Football League) is an Australian rules football and netball competition based in the Bendigo region of Victoria (Australia), Victoria. Formed on 10 June 1881 by the city's three clubs as the ''Sandhurst Football Association'', it is one of the oldest football leagues in Australia, and among its members are some of the oldest football clubs in Australia, including the Castlemaine Football Club, acknowledged as the second oldest football club in Australia and one of the oldest football club, oldest in the world. Rod Ashman
Rodney Ashman (born 3 December 1954) is a former Australian rules footballer who represented in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Playing primarily in the forward pocket, Ashman was a member of Carlton's famous "Mosquito Fleet" which was pivotal to the club's success in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He played in back-to-back premierships in 1981 and 1982. Ashman's courageous style of play saw him suffer frequent concussion. After getting concussed several times in the space of a month, Ashman wore a helmet for the rest of his career. Although he didn't like it, he realised its value in a match against where he got kicked in the head, but was protected by the helmet. When he suffered a stroke in May 2010, Ashman wondered whether it was the result of one of those concussions he sustained during his playing days. Bendigo ( ) is a city in Victoria, Australia, located in the Bendigo Valley near the geographical centre of the state and approximately north-west of Melbourne, the state capital. Jake Stringer
Jake Stringer (born 25 April 1994) is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Essendon Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He previously played for the Western Bulldogs from 2013 to 2017. Stringer was selected in the All-Australian team in 2015 and won an List of VFL/AFL premiers, AFL premiership with the Bulldogs in 2016, the club's first in 62 years. Jarryn Geary
Jarryn Geary (born 23 June 1988) is a retired Australian rules footballer who played for the St Kilda Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Geary was List of St Kilda Football Club captains, St Kilda captain from 2017 to 2020 and co-captain in 2021. Junior career Geary played junior football with the Eaglehawk Football Club, which led to his selection to play in the state-wide junior competition, the TAC Cup, for the Bendigo Pioneers. Des English (born 22 January 1956) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Carlton in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1980s. Regarded as a tireless and absolutely reliable team player and defender, English played in the Carlton premiership sides of 1981 and 1982. He was diagnosed with leukemia in 1986 and never played again although he eventually recovered. Peter Pianto
Peter Pianto (25 November 1929 – 19 February 2008) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Geelong Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and the Claremont Football Club in the West Australian National Football League (WANFL) and later coached Geelong, replacing teammate Bob Davis. Pianto was a brilliant rover who was recruited from Eaglehawk and he chose to join Geelong because of its country atmosphere, after having offers from four league clubs. He played 121 games and kicked 144 goals over seven years with the Cats, mainly playing as a rover and he was a premiership player with Geelong in 1951 and 1952. One of his most memorable efforts was his career high five goal performance in the 1953 semi final against Collingwood. Eaglehawk is a suburb within the City of Greater Bendigo and a former gold-mining town in Victoria, Australia. The town is situated to the north-west of Bendigo on the Loddon Valley Highway. The highway is known locally as High Street until the intersection with Sailors Gully Road (Bendigo - Pyramid Road) and as Peg Leg Road to the west.
