Eagle River (electoral District)
Cartwright-L'Anse au Clair is a provincial electoral district for the House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. As of 2011, there are 3,131 eligible voters living within the district. The district covers remote communities in Southern Labrador that are mostly dependent on fishery. The district includes: Black Tickle, Charlottetown, Capstan Island, Cartwright, Domino, Forteau, L'Anse Amour, L'Anse au Clair, L'Anse au Loup, Lodge Bay, Mary's Harbour, Norman Bay, Paradise River, Pinsent's Arm, Pinware, Port Hope Simpson, Red Bay, St. Lewis, West St. Modeste and William's Harbour. Black Tickle
Black Tickle (Inuttitut: ''Kikkertet'') is a " remote Aboriginal settlement" and designated place in Newfoundland and Labrador on the Island of Ponds. In the 2021 census Black Tickle had a population of 87. Locations in Labrador south of Black Tickle generally observe Newfoundland Time instead of Atlantic Standard Time, which is observed by the rest of the province's continental communities. Black Tickle is served by Black Tickle Airport, a gravel strip airport (CCE4). The Goose Bay - Cartwright - Black Tickle ferry service, MV ''Kamutik W.'', runs from June to November. Yvonne Jean Jones (born March 15, 1968) is a Canadian politician in Newfoundland and Labrador, who was elected to the House of Commons of Canada in a by-election on May 13, 2013. She represents the district of Labrador as a member of the Liberal Party caucus. On December 2, 2015, she was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Indigenous and Northern Affairs. Jones is a member of NunatuKavut. From 1996 to 2013, Jones represented the district of Cartwright-L'Anse au Clair in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly. William's Harbour, Newfoundland And Labrador
William's Harbour is a former local service district and designated place in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The community was entirely resettled in 2017. The settlement was part of the NunatuKavut territory. History A fishing community, William's Harbour went into decline following the 1992 cod moratorium with the closure of its fish plant in 1992. The local school closed in 2000. Norman's Bay is a local service district and designated place in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is an isolated community at the head of Norman Bay, an extension of Martin Bay. The population of the community was 15 in the 2021 census. Norman Bay was a winter settlement for the fishing stations of Snug Harbour and Venison Tickle. Mary's Harbour, Newfoundland And Labrador
Mary's Harbour is a town in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The town had a population of 312 in the Canada 2021 Census, down from 341 in the Canada 2016 Census. It is serviced by Mary's Harbour Airport. Mary's Harbour surrounds the St. Mary's River, which was the site of a salmon fishery as early as the 1780s. However, Mary's Harbour was not a permanent settlement until after a fire at Battle Harbour in 1930. The International Grenfell Association decided to relocate its hospital and boarding school, destroyed by the fire, from Battle Harbour to Mary's Harbour. L'Anse Au Clair
L'Anse-au-Clair is a town in the Labrador portion of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The town has a population of 219 in the 2021 census, up from 192 in 2011. It is located on Route 510, about from the Quebec–Labrador border. It was established by the French in the early 18th century. People began to settle in the L'Anse-au-Clair area after the Quebec–Labrador border dispute was settled in 1825. The settlement of L'Anse au Cotard an area near the town is attributed to Jersey fishermen and merchants coming to the region with the earliest known permanent resident being James Dumaresq from the Dumaresq family who decided to build a home in the region around 1810.
