EVO 2004
The 2004 Evolution Championship Series (commonly referred to as Evo 2004 or EVO 2004) was a fighting game event held at the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona in Pomona, California from July 29 to August 1. The event featured nine fighting games on the main lineup, including '' Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike'' and '' Marvel vs. Capcom 2''. While in previous Evolution events all competitions were held on arcade machines, most tournaments at Evo 2004 were played on video game consoles. Evo 2004 featured the first ''Street Fighter'' match between Daigo Umehara and Justin Wong, in which Umehara executed the " Daigo Parry". The controversial final match of the ''Soulcalibur II'' tournaments held at Evo 2004 motivated the implementation of a collusion rule still in use today. Background The sixth Evolution Championship Series was held at the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, Southern California on July 29 to August 1. Seed (sports)
A seed is a competitor or team in a sport or other tournament who is given a preliminary ranking for the purposes of the draw. Players/teams are "planted" into the bracket in a manner that is typically intended so that the best do not meet until later in the competition, usually based on regular season. The term was first used in tennis, and is based on the idea of laying out a tournament ladder by arranging slips of paper with the names of players on them the way seeds or seedlings are arranged in a garden: smaller plants up front, larger ones behind. Sometimes the remaining competitors in a single-elimination tournament will be "re-seeded" so that the highest surviving seed is made to play the lowest surviving seed in the next round, the second-highest plays the second-lowest, etc. This may be done after each round, or only at selected intervals. Tennis Professional tennis tournaments seed players based on their rankings. The number of seeds varies from tournament to tournam ...

Exhibition Match
An exhibition game (also known as a friendly, a scrimmage, a demonstration, a preseason game, a warmup match, or a preparation match, depending at least in part on the sport) is a sporting event whose prize money and impact on the player's or the team's rankings is either zero or otherwise greatly reduced. In team sports, matches of this type are often used to help coaches and managers select and condition players for the competitive matches of a league season or tournament. If the players usually play in different teams in other leagues, exhibition games offer an opportunity for the players to learn to work with each other. The games can be held between separate teams or between parts of the same team. An exhibition game may also be used to settle a challenge, to provide professional entertainment, to promote the sport, to commemorate an anniversary or a famous player, or to raise money for charities. Several sports leagues hold all-star games to showcase their best players ...

Street Fighter Anniversary Collection
''Street Fighter Anniversary Collection'' is a bundle of two ''Street Fighter'' games: ''Hyper Street Fighter II'', and '' Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike''. It was released for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. Both versions are nearly identical, but the latter version offered online competitive play. The PlayStation 2 version of the bundle was only released in North America, since the PS2 versions of ''Hyper Street Fighter II'' and ''3rd Strike'' were released as separate stand-alone games in Japan, with the PAL region only receiving a separate release of ''Hyper Street Fighter II'' on the PS2. The Xbox version of the bundle was released in all three regions. The initial Japanese release for Xbox was pulled from shelves within a week of release due to a sound bug. Though initially this was believed to be because the title was discovered to be region-free, Capcom confirmed the title's lack of regional lockout was not a mistake, but an intentional decision by the company. The Xbox 360 is ...

A game controller, gaming controller, or simply controller, is an input device used with video games or entertainment systems to provide input to a video game, typically to control an object or character in the game. Before the seventh generation of video game consoles, plugging in a controller into one of a console's controller ports was the primary means of using a game controller, although since then they have been replaced by wireless controllers, which do not require controller ports on the console but are battery-powered. USB game controllers could also be connected to a computer with a USB port. Input devices that have been classified as game controllers include keyboards, mouses, gamepads, joysticks, etc. Special purpose devices, such as steering wheels for driving games and light guns for shooting games, are also game controllers. Controllers which are included with the purchase of a home console are considered as standard controllers, while those that are available to ...

CP System II
The or CPS-2 is an arcade system board that Capcom first used in 1993 for ''Super Street Fighter II''. It was the successor to their previous CP System and Capcom Power System Changer arcade hardware and was succeeded by the CP System III hardware in 1996, of which the CPS-2 would outlive by over four years. The arcade system had new releases for it until the end of 2003, ending with ''Hyper Street Fighter II''. History The earlier Capcom system board, the original CP System (or CPS-1), while successful, was very vulnerable to bootleggers making unauthorized copies of games. In order to rectify the situation, Capcom took the CP System hardware (with QSound) with minimal changes and employed encryption on the program ROMs to prevent software piracy. Due to the encryption, the system was never bootlegged until unencrypted program data became available. Capcom announced the development of the CPS2 in 1990. They had planned to complete and release the CPS2 in 18 months. They also ...
