EU or Ёлочные игрушки (''"Christmas tree decorations"'') is a Russian electronic music group, generally considered to be part of the IDM genre, formed in 1997 in Saint Petersburg, and consisting of Sasha Zaitsev and Ilya Baramiya. Stanislav Baretsky
Stanislav Valereyevich Baretsky (born 8 March 1972 in Lomonosov, Russia, Lomonosov, Leningrad, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union) is a Russian musician. He has worked with the groups Leningrad (band), Leningrad and EU (group), EU. Biography Baretsky worked as a gravedigger and security guard in the 1990s, later unsuccessfully running a cafe and market. He wrote poetry as a young man. In 2002 he made songs based on this work. In the period from 2003 to 2004 he recorded two solo albums, ''Цензура'' ("Censorship") and ''Цензура-2'' ("Censorship-2"). Neither of these albums brought Baretsky stardom. In 2004 he worked with the group named EU (group), EU. They released an album in 2005, ''Электронщина'' (Elektronschina) featuring a stencil of his face on the cover. Samoe Bolshoe Prostoe Chislo () is a Russian indie group formed in 2006 by Kirill Ivanov and the duo EU (group), EU. History In 2006, the journalist Kirill Ivanov met with the duo EU (group), EU and showed them his musical material (at the time labeled as post-hip-hop, anti-hip-hop, deconstructivist hip-hop), which he had worked on in his free time. Ivanov first performed his material as part of 2H Company, a side-project of EU. The first performance in Moscow took place at the Avant Festival in 2006. In August, Ivanov performed at Nashestvie, after which the decision was made to record the new project's debut album. Initially, the group was known as 232,582,657 – 1, a representation of the largest known prime number at the time. In 2007, the first album was finished and distributed through friends.
