EMU200
The EMU1200 series is a series of electric multiple unit passenger trains operated by Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA). The train was originally known as the EMU200 series until all of its cars were refurbished between 2002 and 2004. It is one of the trains that are used for the ''Tze-Chiang Limited Express''. History In 1978, the TRA introduced the ''Tze-Chiang'' class of trains with the EMU100 series running on newly- electrified tracks between Taipei and Taichung. This service proved to be extremely popular, prompting the TRA to purchase more trains to meet demand. In 1984, the TRA awarded Union Carriage & Wagon (UC&W) to build 33 railcars with three cars in each trainset, to be named as the EMU200 series. The trains were built between 1986 and 1987; notably, parts for the last three trainsets (numbered 209-211) were manufactured by UC&W and assembled in Taiwan by Tang Eng Iron Works. Tze-Chiang Limited Express
The Tze-Chiang Express, also spelled "Tzu-chiang" or "Ziqiang" () is a type of express train service operated by the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) in Taiwan. Of the five service classes operated by the TRA, the Tze-Chiang trains is the fastest category. Ticketing is done on the basis of mileage (NT$2.27 per km with a 10 km minimum fee). This service is operated with 7 different trainsets: the E1000 series, the EMU1200 (electric multiple unit), EMU300, TEMU1000 (''Taroko Express''), DR2800 (diesel multiple unit), DR3100, and the TEMU2000 (''Puyuma Express''). The now-retired EMU100 was the first trainset built for this service, which was used for 30 years, terminating ordinary runs at June 15, 2009. EMU100 Series
The Taiwan Railway EMU100 series was a set of rail cars fabricated by British Rail Engineering Limited and the General Electric Company in 1976 that has operated in Taiwan. The alternating current electric multiple unit (EMU) fleet entered full squadron service in 1979, and was withdrawn from service in 2009. This class of railcars were the first to operate on the electric ''Tzu-Chiang Express''. Due to the unit's British origin, rail buffs have variously nicknamed them "British Girl", "British Lady", or "British Grandma" (). Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) is a railway operator in Taiwan. It is an agency of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, responsible for managing, maintaining, and running conventional passenger and freight railway services on 1097 km of track in Taiwan. Taichung Railway Station
Taichung station () is a railway station in Taichung, Taiwan served by Taiwan Railways Administration. It is served by all TRA services along the route. History The station was originally constructed in 1905 in a wooden building architectural style and started its operation in 1908. In 1917, it was rebuilt as a red brick structure with Renaissance architectural style. On 16 October 2016, the elevated station was inaugurated in which the ground-level station was shut down. The first train that arrived at the elevated station was at 06:28. Tang Eng Iron Works () is a steelmaking company in Taiwan. Its headquarters is in Siaogang District of Kaohsiung. History The company was established by in May 1940. It was once the largest steel company in the Japanese-ruled Taiwan. It transformed into a province-owned company in 1962, and reorganized as a state-owned company in 1999. Railway electric traction describes the various types of locomotive and multiple units that are used on electrification systems around the world. History Railway electrification as a means of traction emerged at the end of the nineteenth century, although experiments in electric rail have been traced back to the mid-nineteenth century. Thomas Davenport, in Brandon, Vermont, erected a circular model railroad on which ran battery-powered locomotives (or locomotives running on battery-powered rails) in 1834. Fangliao () is a railway station of the Taiwan Railways Administration at the junction of the Pingtung line and the South-link line. It is located in Fangliao Township, Pingtung County, Taiwan. ''United Daily News'' (UDN; ) is a newspaper published in Taiwan. It is considered to support the pan-Blue Coalition in its editorials. History UDN was founded in 1951 by Wang Tiwu as a merger of three newspapers, ''Popular Daily'' (全民日報), ''National'' (民族報), and the ''Economic Times'' (經濟時報). The three newspapers formally merged in 1953. In terms of political orientation, the ''United Daily News'' is regarded as taking an editorial line that supports the pan-Blue Coalition. Before Taiwan democratized, it was an opponent of political reform; in the years since Taiwan has democratized, it has advocated policies encouraging cooperation with the mainland.
