Ellendale is a town in Sussex County, Delaware, United States. The population was 487 at the 2020 census, an increase of 27.8% since the 2010 census, and a 48.9% increase since the year 2000. It is part of the Salisbury, Maryland-Delaware Metropolitan Statistical Area. Ellendale is the "Gateway to Delaware's Resort Beaches" because it is the town located on U.S. Route 113, the resort area's westernmost border, and Delaware Route 16, the resort area's northernmost border with the eastern border being the Delaware Bay and Atlantic Ocean and the southern border being the state line with Maryland. History Early history Ellendale started as a forest and swamp on the divide between the Chesapeake Bay and Delaware Bay. Ellendale, Oregon
Ellendale is a ghost town in Polk County, Oregon, United States, about two and a half miles west of Dallas. It was the first settlement in present-day Polk County by non-Kalapuyans. The community's name changed over the years, with the first post office in Polk County being opened in this locality as "O'Neils Mills" in 1850. The post office was renamed "Nesmiths" (Or "Nesmiths Mills") in 1850 and discontinued in 1852. The community was eventually renamed Ellendale. History James A. O'Neil built the county's first gristmill at the confluence of La Creole Creek (now Rickreall Creek) and O'Neils Creek over the winter of 1844–1845. The site was chosen for its proximity to water power for the mill, timber and a rock quarry that could provide millstones. Ellendale is an unincorporated community in Shelby County, Tennessee, United States, in the Memphis metropolitan area. History The first railroad to Shelby County was the Memphis & Ohio Railroad, stretching from Memphis to Paris, Tennessee in 1856. In 1872, the Louisville & Nashville, or L&N Railroad, bought the Memphis & Ohio Railroad and sponsored a contest to rename the community near Bond's Station depot. "Ellendale" was chosen as a play-on-words of the abbreviation L&N. According to a source, it appears that Ellendale was eventually annexed by Bartlett in 1977.
