EFU Group
EFU Group, originally Eastern Federal Union Insurance Company Limited, () is a Pakistan based insurance company. It was the first insurance company in India founded in 1932, owned by the Muslims based in Calcutta. After the partition of India, the company moved to Pakistan and operated in East Pakistan and West Pakistan. The company ceased to exist in East Pakistan after it became Bangladesh in 1971. Pakistan subsequently reorganized the company to EFU Group which now comprises the following three companies: * EFU General Insurance Limited * EFU Life Assurance Limited * EFU Health Insurance Limited History It was the first insurance company in India owned and run by Muslims targeted for the Muslim populace. The Nawabs of Bhopal were the Muslim rulers of Bhopal, now part of Madhya Pradesh, India. The nawabs first ruled under the Mughal Empire from 1707 to 1737, under the Maratha Empire from 1737 to 1818, then under British rule from 1818 to 1947, and independently thereafter until it was acceded to the Union of India in 1949. EFU House
EFU BUILDING, formerly known as QAMAR HOUSE, is designed in the Art Deco architectural style, by Qamardin Mahomed Hashwani in 1945 and was built on Muhammad Ali Jinnah Road in central Karachi between 1946 and 1955 by Qamardin & Co. It was the tallest building in Karachi until the construction of the Habib Bank Plaza building in 1968, of the AKFED (Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development). Khuda Buksh (1 February 1912 – 13 May 1974) was an eminent Bengali life insurance salesman and humanitarian from the Indian subcontinent. For four decades he represented the "life and soul of the insurance industry" throughout the region, leaving his indelible mark on the business in three separate countries: British India (specifically in East India), Pakistan, and Bangladesh. Mirza Ahmad Ispahani
Mirza Ahmad Ispahani (1898–1986) was a Perso-Bengali businessman based in Chittagong and the patriarch of the Ispahani family. He was the founder of Orient Airways and the first chairman of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). He was the chairman of Ispahani Group. Early life Mirza Ahmad Ispahani, eldest son of Mirza Mohammed Ispahani, was born in Rangoon, Burma in 1898. He went for schooling in Madras, India. Sir Ellice Victor Sassoon, 3rd Baronet, (20 December 1881 – 13 August 1961) was a businessman and hotelier from the wealthy Baghdadi Jewish Sassoon merchant and banking family. Biography Sir Ellice Victor Elias Sassoon was born 30 December 1881 in Naples, Kingdom of Italy while his family was en route to India. He was raised in England where he attended Harrow and Trinity College, Cambridge. He was from a Baghdadi Jewish family who had made their fortune in the opium business. The family also had large holdings in the Indian cotton industry. Sir Victor served in the Royal Flying Corps in the First World War.
