EDHEC Sailing Cup
The EDHEC Sailing Cup (« ESC ») (Course Croisière EDHEC or « CCE » in French) is the leading student sporting event in Europe and the world's biggest intercollegiate offshore regatta. It takes place every year in a French harbor of the Atlantic Ocean. First held in 1969, nowadays it gathers 3,200 participants coming from 23 countries and from more than 165 universities. In 2017, the association received the award of best student organization of France by the ANEO challenge. Today the ESC is composed of three different trophies that include diverse sports: The Sea Trophy (a regatta), the Land Trophy (a multi-sport raid) and the Sand Trophy (a beach soccer, beach rugby and beach volley competition). Logo EDHEC Sailing Cup Noir
A logo (abbreviation of logotype; ) is a graphic mark, emblem, or symbol used to aid and promote public identification and recognition. Alain Colas
Alain Colas (16 September 1943 – 16 November 1978) was a French sailor, the first to complete a solitary round-the-world race in a multihull. He met Éric Tabarly in Sydney in 1967, and bought Pen Duick IV from him in 1970, and won the "Transat" in 1972. In 1972, he started the construction of a 72m (236 feet) 4 masted monohull for the 1976 "Transat". He broke his right ankle, underwent 22 surgeries, and got back on his feet for the solitary transatlantic race. Éric Tabarly won, and Alain Colas arrived 2nd, but was classed 5th. On 5 November 1978, he took part in his last race, the first Route du Rhum. On 16 November 1978, as he passed the Azores, he sent his last radio message saying that everything was alright and sailing well. Neither his boat '' Manureva'' nor his body were ever found. Longtze
The Longtze is a Chinese design of racing yacht, of carbon composite construction. Longtze yachts compete as a distinct class in regattas in various parts of the world. Development From February to December 2006, a group of China Team members led by Pierre Mas, team skipper, was testing a number of existing sport boats, sail regattas and match racing. The aim was to get a fleet of boats for its operations, part of them being to attract, train and recruit new sailors from China. At that stage the idea came to produce a modern sport boat in China. China Team was just finishing the construction of Longtze, the first Chinese America's Cup and the first carbon composite boat ever built in China. When Luc Gellusseau came back from a sail test in Germany of the new T680, designed by Steve Thompson, he decided it was the right boat for their purposes. Jean-Luc Van Den Heede
Jean-Luc Van Den Heede (born 8 June 1945 in Amiens) is a French sailor. He is best known for his achievements in single-handed sailing and set the current world-record for the westabout circumnavigation (he holds the overall record, i.e. although he sailed solo, nobody was faster on this route with a crewed boat). He also holds the record of sailing cape horn 12 times in competitions. He started sailing at the age of 17. In the Breton port city of Lorient he worked as a mathematics teacher. After 1989 he became a full-time sailor. Among sailors, he is also known by his initials ''VDH''. Marc Pajot
Marc Pajot (born 21 September 1953, in La Baule) is a French sailor. He has been a crew member on Éric Tabarly’s boats. Noted for winning the Silver medal at the 1972 Olympics at 19 with his older brother Yves, 5 times world champion, winner of the cross-Atlantic Route du Rhum, twice semi-finalist representing France at the America’s Cup as a Project Manager and Skipper, he has been representing French sailing achievement around the world. Member of French Maritime Academy, the French Yacht Club, and the Monaco Yacht Club he is now settled in Cannes, Côte d’Azur, running a Yacht Selection activity and a consulting activity in marina landscaping. Yves Parlier (born 14 November 1960) is a French sailor. He is very well known in the offshore sailing world and generally in France, where he waFrance's top sports personality in 2002. Nicknamed "The extra-terrestrial" for his amazing exploits and capabilities, Parlier currently holds two offshore 24-hour distance sailinrecords set in April and May 2006. Jean Le Cam
Jean Le Cam (born 27 April 1959 in Quimper, Finistère) is a French sailor. In 1981–82, he was a crewmember on Euromarché in the Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race. Le Cam was crewman with Éric Tabarly and Michel Desjoyeaux, and won the ''Solitaire du Figaro'' in 1994, 1996, and 1999. He later took an interest in multihull ships. He finished second in the Vendée Globe 2004-2005, arriving just a few hours after the winner Vincent Riou. On 6 January 2009, whilst competing in the 2008-2009 edition of the Vendée Globe, he went missing 200 miles from Cape Horn. Vincent Riou, the then the skipper of PRB, rescued Jean Le Cam from his upturned IMOCA 60. Le Cam was trapped inside his upturned yacht for 16 hours during which time it was not known for certain if he was safe inside his boat or not. Vincent Riou
Vincent Riou (born 9 January 1972, Pont-l'Abbé, France) is a French sailor. He is the skipper of PRB, a 60-foot monohull. He won the 2004 edition of the Vendée Globe. Recent events As part of his introduction to solo racing he helped prepared Michel Desjoyeaux’s 60-foot PRB for the 2000 edition of the Vendée Globe. In the 2008 Vendée Globe, he lost his mast the day after a collision that occurred during the rescue of Jean Le Cam, whose boat had capsized. In the 2016 Vendée Globe, he sailed at a decent speed completing with front boats fitted with hydrofoils, but after 15 days 11 hours 58 minutes of racing and completing 27% of the whole race, he was forced to retire after another collision with a UFO. The almost exact same incident had happened to Vincent in the 2012–2013 Vendée Globe with that he is easily one of the most unfortunate sailors of the Vendée Globe. Olivier De Kersauson
Olivier de Kersauson de Pennendreff (born 20 July 1944) is a French sailor and sailing champion. Kersauson was the seventh child in a family of eight. While he was the only Kersauson not to have been born in Brittany, he was born on 20 July 1944 and brought up near Morlaix in a “provincial Catholic aristocracy with compulsory mass” as he calls it. Very early on, Olivier de Kersauson was to break away from his family. Without being inattentive, he was a pupil who did not settle in well to school life with the priests at boarding school. He passed through eleven schools altogether. After his final school exams and getting up to a lot of things, always on the coast, he began studying economics. At the age of twenty-two, he met Eric Tabarly in Saint Malo. Shortly after, Eric invited him to do his military service on board.
