E. J. Whitley
E. J. Whitley (born February 16, 1982) is a former American football guard in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys. He played college football at Texas Tech University. Early life Whitley attended Texas City (TX), where he was a two-way tackle. As a junior, he was a part of the state's top ranked defense, helping the team achieve a 14-0 record and win the 1999 state championship. He was a two-time all-district player and an all-state selection as a senior. He also practiced basketball. College career Whitley accepted a football scholarship from Texas Tech University. As a redshirt freshman, he was a backup at multiple positions on the offensive line, until starting the final 2 games at right tackle, including the 2002 Tangerine Bowl, where he helped the offense score 55 points (school record in a bowl game). Guard (gridiron Football)
In gridiron football, a guard (G), otherwise known as an offensive guard (OG), is a player who lines up between the center (American football), center and the offensive tackle, tackles on the offensive line of a football team on the line of scrimmage used primarily for Blocking (American football), blocking. Right guards (RG) is the term for the guards on the right of the offensive line, while left guards (LG) are on the left side. Guards are to the right or left of the center. The guard's job is to protect the quarterback from the incoming defensive line, linemen during pass plays, as well as creating openings (holes) for the running backs to head through. 2002 Tangerine Bowl
The 2002 Tangerine Bowl was the 13th edition of the college football bowl game formerly known as Blockbuster / Carquest / MicronPC Bowl. This was the second under the "Tangerine Bowl" moniker, a reference to the original name of the Citrus Bowl, known as the Tangerine Bowl from 1947 to 1982. It was played on December 23, 2002, and featured the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Clemson Tigers. 2008 CFL Season
The 2008 CFL season was the 55th season of modern-day Canadian football, the 51st season for the Canadian Football League. It was also the first CFL season in which all of the league's regular season and post-season games, including the Grey Cup game, were aired on TSN. This meant the CFL was no longer aired on broadcast television in Canada. As of 2008, TSN was available in approximately 8.8 million of Canada's 13 million households. The injured reserve list ( IR list) is a designation used in North American professional sports leagues for athletes who suffer injuries and become unable to play. The exact name of the list varies by league; it is known as "injured reserve" in the National Football League (NFL) and National Hockey League (NHL), the "injured list" in the Canadian Football League (CFL), and the injured list (historically known as the "disabled list") in Major League Baseball (MLB). The National Basketball Association (NBA) does not have a direct analog to an injured reserve list, instead using a more general-purpose "inactive list" that does not require a player to be injured. Injured reserve lists are used because the rules of these leagues allow for only a certain numbers of players on each team's roster. Anterior Cruciate Ligament
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of a pair of cruciate ligaments (the other being the posterior cruciate ligament) in the human knee. The two ligaments are also called "cruciform" ligaments, as they are arranged in a crossed formation. In the quadruped stifle joint (analogous to the knee), based on its anatomical position, it is also referred to as the cranial cruciate ligament. The term cruciate translates to cross.
