E. J. Cole (politician)
Ernest Julian Cole (1916 – November 9, 2000) was an engineer and politician who served as mayor of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan from 1965 to 1966. He was the first Saskatoon mayor born in Saskatchewan. Early years and career Cole was born in Anerley, Saskatchewan and was educated in Conquest and at the Saskatoon Normal School. He went on to study Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan. Cole served in the Royal Canadian Engineers during the Second World War. His career after the war included six years at the National Research Council in Ottawa and one year with Power Corporation in Montreal. In 1956, he became assistant engineer for the City of Saskatoon. Political career Cole ran for mayor in 1964 despite having no experience with City Council. He ran a campaign based on reducing capital expenditures. When he was elected, upsetting incumbent Percy Klaehn, he was only the second person after Angus W. This is a list of mayors of Saskatoon, the largest city in the central Canadian province of Saskatchewan. The mayor leads Saskatoon City Council, the city's governing body. The 28th and current mayor is Charlie Clark, who was first elected in 2016. Background Saskatoon received a town charter in July 1903, which led to the inception of a town council. In May 1906 the Town of Saskatoon merged with the settlements of Riversdale and Nutana, and the City of Saskatoon was incorporated. Until 1954, Saskatoon's mayor was elected annually. From 1954 until 1970, the mayor was elected biannually. The term was then extended to three years, and in 2012 it was extended to four. Westview, Saskatoon
Westview is a suburban community in the Confederation Suburban Development Area (SDA) of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Originally named "Tuxedo Park" by real estate developers in 1912, the area remained undeveloped until the 1960s. The east half of Westview is located on land annexed by the city in 1911, while the western half did not become part of Saskatoon until 1960. The majority of development occurred in the 1970s and 1980s (although the neighbourhood, with the more-or-less current street layout, had appeared on city street maps as early as 1961). The neighbourhood was finally completed in the late 1990s. Located in what was at the time the northwest corner of the city, the neighbourhood was on the city's western edge, giving its residents a true "West view".
