Dynamic Praise
In the Fall Quarter of 1988, several freshmen organized a Freshman Choir at Cunningham Hall of Oakwood College, Alabama. Among the organizers were Johnny Ramsey, Gerald Morgan, Brian Clifton, Michael Darville, Patrick and Paul Graham, Bobby Anderson, Robert Bell, and Owen Simons. Owen Simons was the first director. At the end of the school year, the freshman choir changed its name to Rejoice. After much discussion, the name Dynamic Praise was decided upon during the fall of 1989. In the Spring Semester of 1996, Owen Simons handed the choir leadership over to Andrew Young, affectionately known as Benji. Benji directed the choir until 2011, after which Dynamic Praise came under the direction of Bruce Bean. In 2016, Bean announced he would be stepping down as choir director. Currently, Dynamic Praise is led by Oakwood University alum, Bryce Davis. His mission is to continue the legacy of Dynamic Praise in any way possible. Dottie Peoples
Dorothy "Dottie" Peoples (born August 12, 1950) is an American gospel singer from Dayton, Ohio. After completing high school, she toured with gospel pioneer Dorothy Norwood, a member of the Caravans. After a stint in jazz, she relocated to Atlanta in 1979, and returned to her gospel roots. She has been dubbed "Songbird of the South." Career Peoples performed with Widespread Panic at the inaugural Bonnaroo Music Festival and with Dorothy Norwood. Virtue (musical Group)
Virtue is an American Grammy-nominated gospel music trio. The group currently consists of sisters Ebony Holland, Karima Kibble and Heather Martin. Take 6 is an American a cappella gospel music, gospel sextet formed in 1980 on the campus of Oakwood University, Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama. The group integrates jazz with spiritual and inspirational lyrics. Take 6 has received several Grammy award, Grammy Awards as well as Dove Awards, a Soul Train Award and nominations for the NAACP Image Award. Kelly Cherelle Price (born April 4, 1973) is an American R&B and gospel singer. She started her singing career in 1992. ''Sunday Best'' is a reality television singing competition series hosted by Kirk Franklin. It first aired on BET in October 2007. In each season, the show and its judges set out to find the best undiscovered gospel talent in America. Finalists competed each week until a winner was crowned. The judges throughout the series' run included Gospel singers Yolanda Adams, Kierra Sheard, Donnie McClurkin, Mary Mary, Bebe Winans & Cece Winans. Gospel singer Kim Burrell served as the on-screen mentor. Jonathan Andrew Nelson (born November 10, 1974) is an American gospel singer and songwriter from Baltimore, Maryland. Career Nelson was born in Baltimore, Maryland to James Nelson, a pastor at the Greater Bethlehem Temple Church, and his wife Bessie Nelson. He studied at the Baltimore School for the Arts and Morgan State University. During a performance of Karen Clark-Sheard at his church, Nelson and his friends served as backup singers.
